About this sitter
Hello, I am a retired freelance professional Photographer and live with my wife (also a retired Photographer) in Scotland near Haddington in the country. We have done a lot of house and farm sitting and have enjoyed it. We prefer a longer term sitting, usually over two weeks or up to three months (abroad EU) because of the distance we have to travel from Scotland.
We like looking after small farms, your pets, walking dogs, talking to cats and also are prepared to feed and clean up after them all. We can also look after a garden - mowing and minimal weeding and picking - but note, we are not gardeners ourselves.
We have travelled the world and love meeting new people and cultures. We have also been WWOOFers (Willing Workers on Organic Farms, in Australia) and enjoyed it very much. We are both retired which means we are quite flexible.
Why they want to house sit
Because we now have more time on our hands and love to travel and meet new people.
It is also nice to look after other peoples animals and pets and then hand them back - like grandchildren!
Their experience
Yes, we have completed dozens of house and farm sittings over the years. Most independently arranged through friends and people we know. We have looked after cats, dogs, ducks,hens, sheep, horses, and Llamas, and can give you references. You can either contact previous home owners yourself by phone or email - we are hoping to add references to this page in due course - or, we can arrange for a reference to be sent to you. Let us know as this is not a problem.
Sue was married to a farmer before where livestock included cattle, sheep and poultry. Also has experience of working with horses and llamas.

Cheerful, great with pets and incredibly self sufficient
Sue and Brian looked after our home and pets in august for just under three weeks. They came in their mobile home carrying everything they needed. They looked after our two dogs and two cats lovingly and kept our plants alive through a severe heat wave. Highly recommend this wonderful pair for house and pet sitting.

Everything anyone could want from house sitters - and then some!
Sue and Brian looked after our little cottage and Stan, the cat, for 2 weeks in November. They are lovely people and were a pleasure to deal with throughout, right from the initial contact all the way to the completion of the assignment. They responded to messages promptly and were clear about their own wishes and expectations. When our cat developed an eye condition shortly before the sit was due to begin, they were not fazed by this and readily agreed to give eye drops multiple times per day. They also handled unexpected problems in our absence, such as securing things in the garden when a storm approached, and even dealt with a massive unwanted consignment of tiles delivered in error! Throughout the stay they kept in touch with much-appreciated updates and photos of the cat, which further added to our peace of mind and relaxation during our holiday. When we returned after 2 weeks we found an absolutely spotlessly clean house and a happy, healthy and well-cared for cat, not to mention a pot of delicious chicken stew cooked for us, which was very much appreciated. Sue and Brian are reliable, kind, good with animals and highly respectful of our privacy and resources (we really hope you've kept warm!). They are understandably in high demand as house sitters, and we consider ourselves very lucky to have been able to go away on holiday leaving everything in such good hands. If we're lucky enough for Sue and Brian to want to house sit for us again in the future, we would be absolutely delighted to welcome them back (so would Stan). We would highly recommend Sue and Brian.
Sue and Brian sat for us on many occasions, looking after dogs, cats, chickens, llamas and sheep. During one of our absences, one of our sheep unexpectedly gave birth and Sue dealt with this in a calm and competent manner. One of our dogs became so attached to Brian that they were inseparable when together in the house, even on our return! I would have have no hesitation in saying that they looked after our pets so well that we could leave our home with no concerns about their well being during our time away. I should perhaps add that my husband was working overseas for many years so we had more time away than most people. In respect looking after our home, Sue and Brian took good care of everything and we always returned to a clean and tidy house. We always felt that they were capable of dealing with emergencies if they should arise and they were very good at keeping in touch and discussing things as and when necessary. We had a gardener so we did not request them to do any gardening. We would therefore would have no hesitation in recommending them and I am happy to be contacted should anybody wish to follow up.

Reference :- Sue and Brian ANDERSON-FAIR House/animal care/garden nursery – Pyrénées France. 5th November 2017 – 5th December 2017. We are very happy to write a reference for Sue and Brian as they were great to have as house sitters. Our business was closed in our absence; therefore the principal roles were to look after our animals of 2 dogs, 2 cats, 3 chickens and 3 Gascon pigs, feeding and watering twice daily, walking the dogs daily. No medical administration was required. Also, to compliment our business we grow seasonal vegetables, salads, and soft fruit. November is a quieter month for the vegetable garden, however they watered our young plants in the poly tunnel, and did an impressive tidy up and took an interest in doing a few simple ‘diy’ tasks, which was very much appreciated by us on our return. They contacted us in response to our advert, with an informative summary of their capabilities, experience, work history and expectations from our house sitting post. Communication was via email and skype, which was thorough and precise. Sue and Brian came across as a friendly, polite, efficient and a caring couple. Showing initiative, confidence and responsibility during their house sitting post, keeping in touch with us on a ‘essential to contact’ basis. Fulfilling all our requirements and we were glad to hear that they too had enjoyed their experience here, exploring much of the area, taking the dogs for walks, meeting the locals and enjoying some of the local attractions.
