I'm a self employed programmer/developer and work from home most of the time. I also love the outdoors and do a lot of walking. I'm very easy going and laid back. Love animals and had them most of my life. My late wife was a veterinary nurse and she used to bring home lots of unwanted pets. I've been in IT most of my life but sometimes like to do something different. I've recently worked as a health care assistant (auxiliary nurse) for Worcester Acute Hospitals, also trained as a massuer and had my own rooms in a fitness club for a while and attempted to work on a fishing trawler in Iceland when I was 18 but that didn't quite work out! I was a volunteer and trustee for a Birmingham charity for 7 year but I retired last year. This is a homeless shelter open 24 hours over Christmas providing food, accommodation, clothing, health care, entertainment and people who care. We were managing around 140 guests and around 300 volunteers each year. I also run an international website for dialysis patients. I'm a non smoker and a car owner. I'm quite quiet when at home. Because the majority of my work is on the internet, I will need broadband internet access, preferably wireless. I would prefer a rural setting or close to the countryside. Although I am also open to sitting in a city or town I haven't been to before. Anywhere in Europe - outside of Europe too if you can contribute towards travelling costs.

A year-round pet & home care-taker for over four years (since February ’05) I absolutely love every bit of the experience and recommend it to everyone! Originally, started out petsitting dogs & cats I’d placed in homes through animal rescue and fostering, then it grew and blossomed from there. Have an extra special place in my heart for animals who have come from a rescue situation; I just adore animals, individual quirks and all! I am a home-owner (KS) and, depending on the current situation with renters in my place, I may be open to home exchange opportunities as well. Very early on I discovered that while the neighborhood I settled in was wonderful, it just wasn’t the place I was meant to call home permanently; it’s my hope I will find that special place during my home/petsitting journeys. With regard to home & petsits; I do both short & long-term sits and have had extensive experience working with cats & dogs of all breed types & ages (providing insulin & medications is perfectly fine too). In addition, through petsitting I’ve also now cared for: a parrot, goats, chickens, hamsters, fish & miniature donkeys (a baby donkey was even born while I was sitting for the family which was the neatest experience ever!) I do financial software consultant work from home and, as such, require access to a high-speed Internet connection; my only real requirement for the sitting jobs I take on. My schedule is generally a traditional 8-5 M-F one, so I’m home a great deal for those with pets not used to being alone or a home that needs someone nearby regularly. Happy to provide additional help where needed, such as: mail forwarding, watering plants, lawn/garden, pool etc., also happy to discuss utility responsibility for longer-term sits. I travel with my own computer & cell phone so I do not leave phone bills behind at all and I try to be conservative with utility usage at all times. I'm a mid 30’s female, non-smoker, no pets of my own currently and I don’t drink – quiet and very respectful of other’s homes. Previous home/petsits have had homeowners who come and go during their travels and I’m perfectly happy to have the added company during those stopovers! Open to doing reoccurring visits and do so fairly regularly; always happy to home-sit again if it’s at all possible with my schedule! Travel expenses are my own responsibility, but the more notice I can get the better. I travel by plane or Amtrak and, generally do not rent a car unless it is for a day jaunt here or there on a weekend. Happy to use public transportation where available, or taxis as needed. Some homeowners offer the use of their cars, others do not – it is certainly not something I expect at all. City or country settings are fine; both are a treat as I love to nature watch or go fishing just as much as I love to go to the theater or art galleries. I have also done some traveling in Southeast Asia and know people in some of the major cities. For the record, I love Singapore! I value cleanliness and order, and the three times I have been to Singapore have been breaths of fresh air after coming from chaotic China. For me, the ideal housesit will be somewhere quiet. I currently live in a noisy residential area on campus. I hear babies crying and children screaming and adults talking loudly. Not all the time, of course, but often enough. It would be nice to get away from this for a while. Also ideal would be a place with a computer I could use, or an Internet cafe close by, as I don't have a laptop. I don't drink or smoke. My idea of a nice evening is having dinner and talking with a few friends, or staying home alone reading, watching a DVD or surfing the Net.

I am 67, very fit and active, and six years ago I renovated a mountain retreat in the South of France. I have since lived in various regions - Aude, the Dordogne, Lot, Languedoc - but I have an insatiable wanderlust and home/pet sitting would give me the chance to visit even more regions. I was a teacher for several years, becoming Head of the Wirral Schools Remedial Service, then later worked in Monaco and Brussels and finally joined the Inland Revenue as a trainee tax inspector at the age of 50. I am happy to care for all types of small pets (including rodents) and I particularly love cats. Because I spend so much time travelling, I can't keep a cat these days but when I visit my daughter in the UK I love playing with her four rescue cats. I have two daughters, ten grandchildren, and two great grand-daughters, mostly in the UK but one grandson works in Dubai. Because I spend Christmas with them, I would not be available for about two or three weeks round that period. Otherwise, I am completely free. My passion is snorkelling on coral and I have at least one holiday a year in tropical seas. I would be willing to pay my own fare to a 'long-haul' placement if there was any accessible coral around. Otherwise, I drive all over Europe, just to explore, and would be happy to take my own car almost anywhere in Western Europe. I speak reasonable French. I am obsessively tidy and would be happy to keep a house clean, water plants, feed and exercise small animals (no farm animals or horses), look after guests - but I can't manage DIY or building work! I like very isolated situations and I am used to mountain driving, including driving with chains. I don't smoke and drink a glass of wine with my dinner. I have used Homelink to arrange house exchanges and would be happy to give references from people whose houses I had visited. As a retired tax inspector, my financial probity is guaranteed. I can keep books, deal with tradespeople in English or French, light wood or coal fires, take phone calls, or meet guests at the airport. I would not want to stay in a town or suburb, but I would be happy in studios/flats/houses/chateau of any size, providing there was indoor plumbing and hot water.

At the end of last year, I left the corporate world to become a freelance writer, which means I can work from just about any place with internet access. My specialty is writing copy for websites. I also own a resume writing business.I'm single, about to turn 40, very responsible, trustworthy and very tidy. In fact, I just sold my home in Canton, Michigan (Detroit/Ann Arbor area) and got rave reviews on its presentation and cleanliness. I am a young female professional working at an executive level in the United States. I have been with the same company for 10 years and have a very stable position that allows me to travel and work remotely from any location. I am flexible with housesitting arrangements, and welcome weeklong stays as much as monthlong stays, anywhere in the world. My only requirement is that I can easily work online for long periods of the day, which either requires internet access from the property, or access in a nearby town. I love cats, but have had less luck with dogs. It really depends on the situation. I have a little bit of housesitting and pet care experience with friends and family in the Midwestern U.S., but have not tried it more extensively than that. (When younger, I did work at an animal shelter for a brief time.) I am a loner and writer/reader by nature and enjoy peace and quiet. Remote locations and unfamiliar surroundings have never bothered me. I have traveled in many countries and cities by myself, for long periods (from several days up to 6 months), including Chile, Japan, Thailand, Czech Republic, Spain, France, Italy, and the UK. I am a former homeowner, and have always been responsible with property and finances, with triple A credit.
