I am looking for a non smoking, considerate, quiet, dog friendly house sitter to watch my dog over a one- two week period and occasional other long weekends. Dates are flexible and can be mutually agreed upon, but I would like to take a few international trips for two+ weeks and a few local long weekends w/out dog. I prefer a couple, but single who can care for dog is okay. Dog is very independent but loves having people in the house.
Caring for a large, gentle, strong but friendly (except towards squirrels, rabbits, cats) dog. She is not agressive, just a bit too curious towards the urban wildlife.
My apartment is located in a full service, sun drenched 1926 classic building. It is in a great location-Cleveland Park/Woodley Park, a safe, 100% walkable neighborhood. Features include: National Zoo (2 minutes), dozens of restaurants/bars, pharmacy, post office, beautiful movie theater and public library (5 minutes). Transportation options are plentiful including redline metro (5 minutes walk to stop and then 10-15 minute ride to all the sites) and bus lines (stop outside door; direct line to Mall, Dupont Circle, Foggy Bottom), and two bikes that can be used to explore the city and Rock Creek Trails. This neighborhood is great for bikers, runners and people who love the city but also the greenery of being up the hill from the bustle. I have broadband, a gas stove and the apartment is a good size 1 bedroom 900 sf. A family would also be welcome but the futon sleeper is in a small open den. I currently don't have cable TV but would get cable for the right situation. I also don't have microwave.
Must be able to walk and handle a very well behaved, not agressive, but strong dog (who will acknowledge her attraction for animals like rabbits, squirrels and cats by pulling on the lead barking at other dogs) three times a day (two 30 minute minimum walks and one other quick bathroom break), feed dog and pick up her droppings. This neighborhood is very walkable, and it is a joy to explore. Usually I end up walking for an hour each time because it is so interesting. When dog is in apartment, you don't notice her. She sleeps 10 hours a night, five more hours during the day and is very unobtrusive, other than when she is outside and trying to contain the urban wildlife.
