About this assignment

We are looking for someone to care for our old farm house and horses on 13 acres in located on the Salmon river in Idaho.

We are needing someone very responsible, honest and hardworking, who is willing to care for our home, property and horses. Prefer nonsmoker that does not drink. Availability mid July 2013 for two years. We are looking for applicants that are wanting to live in a rural mountainous region. We prefer someone that understands what a rural lifestyle means and that has their own vehicle.
Compensation is not provided at this time.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

We have several horses which are pastured over the spring and summer, and fed AM and PM in the winter months. Care for the house and grounds surrounding the house. Irrigation of the yard and small upper pasture with simple yard word as needed. Leaves raked in fall and burned or piled.
Care of the horses year round is minimal May through Oct. Also care of one to two cats which are outside cats.

What are the good features of the property and location

This is one of the most pristine areas of the US with year-round recreational activities nearby. Town is a short distance, neighbors friendly and the view outstanding.
The house has a cabin like atmosphere; grounds around the house are very manageable with very large willows that provide shade in the summers. The acreage is used as pasture with little maintenance needed. A large garden plot and two small greenhouses are available with irrigation water. Location as listed above.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

The house is heated with wood heat only. That means feeding the fire several times a day/night when it is very cold. Splitting the wood as needed and bringing it into the house each day. The caregiver needs to understand how to use a wood stove safely. Electricity and wood costs are the responsibility of the caregiver.
Feeding horses Nov through mid April is twice/day. Prepare for winter weather.
Owners will possibly come home 1-2 times year for repairs and improvements. Prearrangement with the caregiver's schedule can be made to make this convenient for both parties.
