House sitters - How to find success through MindMyHouse

How to succeed through our service versus 'whistling in the wind'.

Dear MindMyHouse member. Congratulations for taking out a house sitter membership with us. You are well on your way to finding those great house sitting assignments you are seeking!

There are a few simple things you can do to maximise your chance of success through our service. See the following as instructions rather than guidelines. If you don't follow these instructions you will be wasting your membership!

  1. Create your own sitter available listing. Seventy percent of home owners contact our house sitters directly. If you don't display your services with us they can't find you!
  2. Opt in to our Local Sitter Search database. Home owners in your area can then find your listing on a Google map and contact your directly.
  3. Create an 'all countries' email alert. However, if you only want to sit in France, then an alert for 'France' only will do. This way, you receive an email every time a relevant sitter wanted listing is posted to our site.
  4. Check your email inbox daily for your alerts and for messages from home owners.
  5. Keep your contact details current in our database.
  6. Respond to home owner's messages and to sitter wanted listings as soon as you can.
  7. Write a fabulous 200 word 'standard response' to use as the basis of your applications to home owners.
  8. Tell home owners how you can meet their needs and why you want to house sit for them.
  9. Be prepared to meet your own travel expenses and your costs while on assignment.
  10. Make sure that you have referees that you can call upon.
  11. Get a police check.
  12. Become an animal lover. Have fun with it!

Easy setup ( Sitter)

Site works great, I’m in about a dozen and I found it one of the easier ones to set up a profile on.

House sitting has been a very positive experience for us ( Owner)

House sitting has been a very positive experience for us on the whole, the odd glitch but over 15 years hardly surprising! With many animals and an off grid farm we have attracted lots of different folk and several are still in touch with us as friends. We have also had both young and more mature but all embraced the peace and beauty of our location. Having house sitters is a lesson in trust and we have learnt lots and would say our property and animals have been cared to our standards of not better! If we come across behaviour we find unacceptable we deal with it and come to resolution that suits both parties. Housesitters and volunteers have given us the opportunity to travel, work and deal with family bereavement in another country. I would use the word invaluable especially having so many animals. Thankyou for setting up this valuable service.
