Retired couple (teacher, counsellor) are looking for responsible, experienced sitters to look after our home and our lovable dogs Lulu and Mishka and our cat Daisy (A retired goddess).
We like to travel and are looking to make arrangements for January to March or possibly April 2021.
We live in a detached bungalow in a beautiful rural area in the south-west of coastal Ireland. We are experienced house-sitters ourselves, and only ever had 5-star references so we would expect the same high standard from those who sit for us. Although the house is in a beautiful part of the world, you would only apply if you recognised you would be here primarily for them and to look after our house, and everything else would be secondary.
Lulu is a Karakachan (Balkan sheepdog) and is very powerful; she is not aggressive, far from it, but if you are out walking and she decided to give chase to a hare, she could pull you over! For this reason, our house sitters would need to be experienced with big dogs and we would not be able to consider sitters with young children.
The primary responsibility is the care of our pets. The two dogs need a good long walk (they won't say no to two) daily. Our cat Daisy needs a fuss when she's in the mood. There was a time when cats were revered as gods, and she has not forgotten this. The house is low maintenance but the house plants would need slight watering from time to time.
The house sits above a tidal estuary about 5 minutes' drive from the town of Cahersiveen, in SW County Kerry. We are surrounded by stunningly beautiful countryside with sumptuous views. The MindMyHouse site seems to have a problem with showing our location: we're near the town of Cahersiveen. Ignore the map if it doesn't show that!
We have excellent internet connectivity (>25mbs), Sky TV, Amazon Echo (four of these) for as much music as you can enjoy, lots of books, two log-burning stoves (lounge, kitchen), 3 bedrooms, a book-lined study, two bathrooms, and an acre of mainly lawn and stunning views. The house has all the usual facilities you would expect.
You would need a car as we're 5 mins drive from the nearest town. We MAY be able to arrange for use of our car.
Ours is an ideal assignment for those who are happy to spend time relaxing within a comfortable, and homely lived-in house. While we know that one of the benefits of house sitting is exploring locally, we would need you to commit to not spending more than a few hours away each day. This is really important. You should only apply if you are willing to spend most of the day with our pets, and there is plenty to see and enjoy nearby.
We really only want to consider couples.
*** You would need to have very good references. *** We are sitters ourselves and have several 5* references so would expect at least equivalent references from potential house sitters. Thanks!
Thanks for reading this and if you'd like to know more, or would like to offer yourself for house & pet sitting for us please do get in touch.
We usually acknowledge all expressions of interest and if we do not reply it will because our requirements have not been met and you have not have suggested why we could consider an exception.
Thanks for your interest.
John and Jane
What a pleasure to write these words for John and Jane. Their 3 pets are a joy to look after - Lulu is adorable and acts more like a quiet puppy than a big dog. Mischa is very affectionate too and a little slower on her feet. Their cat Daisy comes and goes as she pleases and is well-mannered and likes to be pet. On the first couple of days, John gave a fantastic tour of the local area - which was a lovely thing to do and made settling in very easy. Jane cooked some lovely meals, which was unexpected, but welcomed and thoroughly enjoyed. They kindly allowed for a couple of extra nights after they came back from holiday and were great people to meet and communicate with. The local area of Cahirciveen and Valentia Island offers plenty to see and experience. Their home is very comfortable and clean - a couple of miles outside of the town with beautiful views all around. We had the use of their car during our stay which allowed us to visit some other breathtaking places with the dogs and on our own. Delighted to recommend John and Jane's lovely home, and we hope to return there soon.
I housesat for John and Jane at their wonderful home in Ireland. The house overlooks a beautiful, ever changing estuary that is very atmospheric as the tides and weather change. They are great hosts and their family of animals are all very well behaved and easy to take care of and fun to play with and walk. I fell in love with all of them. They have a great well-stocked kitchen and everything was left tidy. They are close to a charming Irish village in Kerry and their neighbors are friendly and helpful. If you want to see one of the most beautiful parts of the country this is a great place to be. I had a wonderful stay and so enjoyed meeting them.
I had a wonderful time staying for over a month at John and Jane's lovely, cozy home in County Kerry. First of all, the location and views are idyllic. Secondly and most importantly, the pets are just wonderful. Lulu and Mishka the dogs and Daisy the kitty all have unique, marvelous personalities and, to be honest, I was quite emotional leaving them as we had bonded and really enjoyed our time together. John and Jane were so helpful and informative preparing me for my stay and then staying in touch. I enjoyed being mostly out in the country, on the edge of the sea, and near the sweet little town of Cahersiveen. The area is bursting with interesting features, from old stone forts, castles, and holy wells, to glorious views, perfect beaches, and lovely, friendly neighbors. I would go there again in a heartbeat and in fact often think of and miss my friends Lulu, Mishka, and Daisy.
