Quiet house close to everything in Durham, NC with two laid-back cats and one affectionate dog

United States, Durham, North Carolina

  • Dog(s)
  • Cat(s)

My dog is a Havanese, so is hypo-allergenic and non-shedding. The cats do shed, but are short-haired, so they don't leave a lot of cat hair around. All the pets are up to date on shots and are healthy. :-)

About this assignment

I am looking for an individual or couple to keep my pets happy and healthy while I am in Costa Rica this summer. I'm also looking for someone who's willing to send regular updates and photos via text message or email. :-) And of course, I'm looking for someone to do basic upkeep on the house.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

First and foremost, making sure the cats and dog all get snuggles when they want them. Also, feeding the dog twice per day, filling the cats' feeder every 5 to 6 days, putting out fresh water, and cleaning the cat box every 3 to 4 days. The cats are indoor/outdoor so you'd be letting them in and out quite a bit. (The in-out-in-out game is their favorite one to play with humans!) Aside from the pet duties, taking care of the house is pretty straight forward.

What are the good features of the property and location

My house is located in Durham's hipster neighborhood, Lakewood-Tuscaloosa. At 795 square feet, the house is small, but comfortable. It is a two bedroom, one bath and has hardwoods throughout. The house is equipped with all the cooking essentials -- stove, microwave, rice cooker, utensils etc -- and has a living room/dining room combination. And, if music is your thing, the house also has a nice Yamaha piano. As for location, it's nearly perfect: the house is situated on a very quiet street and is a 5 minute drive to downtown Durham and 7 minutes to Duke University. The house is within walking distance of a great local coffee shop, Food Lion, and a wonderful diner named True Flavors. It's also within walking distance of the local YMCA, which works out well after eating at True Flavors!

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

If you are interested in this assignment, I promise to provide very specific information about the house and the pets, and if you've got questions about any of that, you can of course feel free to ask. I want anyone who stays in my house to feel comfortable and happy to be here.
