About this assignment

Looking for a responsible person/couple to live in our house and take care of it and our cat while we're on vacation. While we are pretty easy-going and are not opposed to visitors, wild parties are not on.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

It's a fairly low-maintenance house, so just basic cleaning, and garden maintenance in season. We have one small cat who likes to have people around. She needs to be fed, and have some company.

What are the good features of the property and location

It is a two-bedroom old house in a medieval village. The house does not require a lot of maintenance. There is a garden that looks onto the town park

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

There are a couple of steep staircases to get to the bedrooms and basement. A certain level of mobility is necessary. There is no public transport to or from the village, but basic necessities can be purchased here

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Winter retreat at Lauzun

I came back again to look after Friday who has lost her wild hairs and became a house cat in the new home of Sue and Ian at the small lake of Lauzun. Now she has her own garden she probably doesn't need to go elsewhere anymore, and she also became more affectionate following me through the house. Sue and Ian already did a great job already in renovating the old house that origins to the 13th century and belonged to the castle. It's so peaceful along the small lake and yet is situated at the edge of the historic centre, close to the market where Daniel sells his organic vegetables on saturday morning (I recommend visiting his farm at a few km distance). So I experienced my staying as a pleasant silent winter retreat, comfortable enough as a heating system was installed and a new bathroom with a charming bath tube. Especially the (vintage) kitchen with stove is lovely and not to forget the living room with a view on garden and water where the sun shines in the afternoon. The little town of Lauzun is quite charming with a nice energy. And there's always friends around to help when something is needed. Thank you for your hospitality.

Harmonious cat sitting in Lauzun

Sue and Ian are a kind, hospitable and easygoing couple that picked me up at the railway station of Marmande (on the line Toulouse-Bordeaux) and took me to the airport of Bergerac for the outgoing flight. Lauzun lies in the middle and they live in an old house in the historic heart of the town with little secret gardens behind a castle and a small lake at the other side. Quite charming and the cosy house has a nice kitchen and lovely courtyard. In this setting Friday the cat and I lived together in harmony during the holidays of her mum and dad. She looks so fragile but is actually a flower power girl with an active night live. Early in the morning she came home to sleep at my feet, ly on my chest for a while when I woke up, and sleep till afternoon, to explore the gardens again, walking in and out to say hello. Before each meal she always liked to sit for a while on my lap, as if each time she wanted to connect. So it was a loving cat sitting experience and I miss her wake up cuddle. I was also happy with the weekly market where Daniel who runs a 95% organic farm sells this radiant super fresh vegetables. Besides I could join friends of Sue and Ian when they went to nearby supermarkets, and got to know the small foreign community that is involved in all sorts of creative activity like decorative art, gardening, theatre, cooking ... Sue being passionate about music, drawing and writing and Ian about photography. It was really nice to experience the French countryside for a while and I hope to be able to return and see more of it. Thanks for a lovely spring time.
