Quiet, independent, single, non-smoking, freelance writer with experience housesitting/petsitting (dogs and cats) and upkeeping my own country home. Open to any housesits anywhere - especially in the company of a piano!
Spending time with animals is one of the greatest delights in my life, but I realize that I can't currently make the long-term commitment to a pet. I also adore travel, and writing allows me some freedom of location, if also a modest income. Slow travel, i.e. being in a place for several weeks or months, is the style I most appreciate.
As a recent country cottage-renter, I'm accustomed to caring for a house and living on my own in quiet and relative isolation. I've also lived in apartments in cities, and managed all of the aspects of that kind of life. In my cottage, which was certainly not without its quirks, I always noticed when something needed attention or repair. A house is a magnificent thing, but it is indeed a responsibility, one that I appreciate and respect.
I grew up with pets and volunteered at the Animal Rescue League across the street. When I was 8 years old, someone brought a box of kittens to our house, and I plucked a small black one from the litter. He was my best friend for 16 years. Four years later I used my own money to get a little red dog from the shelter across the road, where I spent all my free time growing up - a second best friend. Even back then, the women working there saw that I had a way with animals, and soon I came and went as I pleased, cleaning up and socializing the animals like a little volunteer employee.
Since then, I've been a housesitter and petsitter in a variety of situations. For several months, I fostered a shelter cat who just needed a break. I've looked after friends', coworkers' and acquaintances' dogs, cats and kittens. It's important for a pet, just like a child, to know that things are OK when their family is away, and caretaking that safe space is an experience that inspires a lot of gratitude in me. From the beginning, and now ever more, I simply, thoroughly love and respect animals, and they seem to understand this.
A homebody at heart, I'm able to spend most of my time on your property, and to accommodate special situations. Many housesitting, personal and professional references available.
