We are a British family of 3 living in the Gers department (32) in SW France and need sitters from February (ish) for at least 6 months. This is a beautiful part of the country providing you like open space, quiet roads, small villages and peaceful countryside. We need a mature couple to take care of keeping the pool clean, lawn-mowing, wood-chopping and other chores such as minor maintenance work (tree pruning, weed-spraying, maybe some light painting/decorating). In return we offer a large 4 bedroom flat with private garden. We will also pay reasonable utility costs including wifi - please note - we are NOT offering a salary of any kind so please do not approach us if you are looking for permanent, paid work.
This isn't a typical housesitting role as we live full-time at the property but it is too large for us to take care of ourselves and we like to take weekends away if we can. We need our housesitters to take care of the garden and to help out with odd jobs around the place. We have lots of lawn, an orchard and a big vegetable garden (not planted in the winter), and would also like someone to take care of the swimming pool. Sometimes we'll ask for a hand with heavy jobs like wood cutting/clearning. As well as odd weekends away, on occasional basis i.e. school holidays, we take holidays so would like our house-sitters to cat /dog-sit. We have a self-catering holiday cottage so would like a couple who are flexible and would be prepared to do some cleaning/ironing/maintenance work on a very occasional basis - we would pay for this work.
We own 100 acres of land in rural Gascony, or "Gers", the modern name for the department so there's plenty of space and peace for house-sitters who are artists, musicians or writers. We anticipate house-sitting duties will amount to 20 hours work per week so this leaves plenty of time to work elsewhere or to follow all manner of leisure pursuits. We are 2 hours from the border with Spain and the same distance again from the Atlantic coast
We need someone for around 6 months, possibly a bit longer. Our ideal sitters will be keen and experienced gardeners and also very practical in terms of DIY. Potential sitters need to consider what this region will be like in Winter - VERY cold, and yes, we do get snow - this is not the Cote D'Azur or Provence...... Housesitters will settle in more easily if they like their own/each others' company rather than needing an ex-pat crowd around them and the ability to speak French will make life even easier still!
