About this assignment

We are looking for a practical country couple. Do you love beautiful countryside and gardening? Are you practical with general machinery and like to be occupied and doing stuff outside? Do you like cats? We are looking for a responsible, resourceful, honest, meticulously clean, tidy and energetic couple. Non smokers. Must love and understand the country, woodland, gardens and animals with good DIY and gardening and operating garden machinary skills. Also be able to maintain a swimmng pool. We do have six acres here so you will need energy and enthusiasm to enjoy helping with practical work on this lovely rural property. It is essential that you are mechanically minded for keeping in working order the garden machines and to understand thoroughly the workings of the pool etc.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

We would require you to help us with the upkeep of this property. Gardening, pool cleaning and general maintenance work, sweeping terraces, mowing and strimming, cutting wood and keeping machinery in working order. You must be experienced with a chain saw, strimmer and mowers and be mechanically minded enough to sort out their running and maintenance. Also to look after our cat Lollypop who needs company and look after the chickens who are normally around six in number. The main house will need to be cleaned once a week.

What are the good features of the property and location

In return for your help we will provide you with a very comfortable and completely refurbished stone farmhouse in a riverside setting, located in the Var region of the South of France. There are two farmhouses on six acres of beautiful park and woodland. The owners will occupy one of the houses for some of the months that the house sitters will be required for. Even though it is a rural situation, it is ten minutes from the motorway and close to shops and local towns and villages. Ideal for anyone wanting a winter in the Provencal countryside and yet have easy access to the coast and mountains and all the South of France has to offer. Be aware that the climate in the South of France can be cold in winter. Unusually, with this position you get your own house rather than living in the owners accommodation. This stone farmhouse is like a home from home. Normally we get a good rent for 6 months in the winter. The house you will be living in rents for €1800 per week in the summer months so we have chosen to forgo that income in order to have a reciprocal arrangement a home in exchange for care taking.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

We are looking for someone with seriously good practical skills, who will be happy to deal with various maintenance jobs in both the houses and the garden. We would require the sitters to pay for heating during the winter ie they will be responsible for their own electricity or wood cutting. You must enjoy keeping the place looking good, so outdoors is a big feature. You need to be fit, energetic and enthusiastic about land and gardens. The grounds are consistently maintained, so it is a matter of upkeep. As with all land there is a fair amount of work. If this is the sort of life that appeals to you and you like to keep busy, you will enjoy it here. We are looking for a couple long term, one year or more. Must have your own car and be financially secure. No children or pets. We will not consider any applications without a full profile and photo.
