We are looking for someone who feels comfortable living in a remote area, have a passion for dogs and animals in general. You should be energetic and trustworthy and have some experience of caring for a home. We are open to all nationalities. This is an ideal opportunity for anyone considering spending a longer period of time in Canada and experiencing a true Canadian lifestyle.

Our house is in a remote area, in the interior of BC with lots of wildlife and is mainly for the outdoor enthusiast. The town of 100Mile House has a population of just over 2,000. You will find everything that you need here. The area has an abundance of lakes, fishing, hiking, biking , camping and wildlife. Winter months offer snowmobiling, skiing, snowshoeing and of course dogsledding. The surrounding nature is pure and pristine.

This task will very likely appeal to people looking for and appreciate peaceful surroundings and seclusion.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

The main task is to care for our dogs: feed, clean kennels and socialize with them. Daily walks, one dog each day. We also have some laying hens, cleaning the coop , feeding the hens and collecting the eggs daily.

What are the good features of the property and location

The main task when we are away is to care for our dogs, we have 7 Siberian Huskies, 5 of which run in a dog sled team during the winter months, 3 are now retired or just too old to run (all of them live outside), clean kennels, feed twice a day, socialize and walk with one of them when you have time. We also have 9 hens. The coop will need to be cleaned once a week and eggs need be collected daily. The assignments really depend on the time of year that you are here. This can be discussed at a further time. We ask for an average of 15/ 20 hrs. of your time to offset the cost of rent.

We will spend at least a week with you to show you the routine for the dogs and get to know the property so that you feel comfortable before we leave.

Ideally, we would like you to stay for a minimum of 2 months.

Preferences will be given to sitters from overseas

Financially independent as we do not offer a remuneration.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

We offer our self-contained carriage house throughout your stay. The home has a lovely deck that overlooks a private lake. There is a dock with the use of a canoe. The carriage house is equipped with all the requirements for the every day life. There is a good booster antenna so cell phone works most of the time, however Internet is not provided (Just needs to be connected with server) satellite TV. Washing machine and a large bedroom, living room, dining area and full kitchen. You will need to provide your own transportation as the next town in approx. 20 minutes drive, partly on a well-maintained dirt road.

No smokers, no children and no pets. Everyone will be asked for recent references, criminal check and a recent photograph.

Hydro (Electricity) is separate. There is a cozy wood fire with a back up heater.

You should have a good sense of responsibility and a mechanical aptitude in certain situations. Note that the dates given in this listing are approximate only.
