self managed, self motivated, clean, responsible, non smokers inside. Willing to look after two sweet african dwarf goats as well as some chickens and muscovy ducks. We are looking mostly for sitters for a short term- one or two weeks. I am a teacher and have time off at Christmas, Easter, Winter break, summer, and Fall break. Summers I am busy putting in the garden and also harvesting and putting up food in the autumn- I do not usually want to leave at that time, but I could have house sitters mid summer when most of the work is watering and perhaps picking berries or your own salads! If you are very experienced with organic gardening and really want to do more garden work, I can consider a longer summer stay or a stay in the Spring or Autumn when there is more work to do.
Requires mostly laying down litter and putting out water and feed, but longer stays may also require changing out deep bedding. We also have a sweet cat who goea out and stays in as she wants. In the summer, there is also mowing and watering of the gardens, and on longer term stays weeding or harvesting.
We are located in a beautiful rural setting on two acres, but with in two kilometers of a national train line in southern Norway, just 8 kilometers from the picturesque harbor town of Horten, with beaches, bike paths, and a Viking festival in the summers. In the winter there is a cross country ski run literally just outside our door fringing on our property. We have skis for two and could perhaps borrow more. We have bikes, an electric car, and a truck. Horten is just one hour by train from Oslo, so perfect for day trips- feed the animals, visit the city, and come home to put them to bed! We have the most wonderful, friendly neighbors on adjacent small farms. You would have fresh eggs every morning, and in the summer access to salad, herbs and vegitables outside your door. Cosy and warm inside in the winter, and in the summer, the sun hardly sets!
Please make sure you are able to take care of goats chickens and ducks. They do not requre alot of work, but it is better if you have some experience. Neighbors speak mostly Norwegian, although they can all speak some English too. Norway can be an expensive place to travel or eat out, but if you are here when the garden is in, you will have fresh salad to eat- you may also be welcome to food in our fridge or freezer during short term stays.
