A couple or a single female who/that is/are enthusiastic,fit, animal lovers and at times content to be hard working. You will also need to be able to drive and to be able to speak good English. A real bonus would be if you also had some knowledge of Portuguese.
Free use of a vehicle is available if required. You must have basic gardening and problem solving attributes and possess first class communication skills. We work on a policy of inviting couples who apply to come and stay with us in one of our apartments for a few days (free of course) so that we can show you what's on offer and also get to know each other.
Obviously, if you normally live in Portugal, Spain, Southern or Mainland Europe or are currently involved in a sit that allows you to be absent for a while in this part of the world,this is of logistical and expense advantage. However, this is not a prerequisite and is open to any couple who want to travel to us.

To look after the apartments, two very well behaved dogs, to welcome guests in my absence, and to assist in organising the cleaning and running of the apartments.
There will be some basic maintenance, gardening and pool cleaning duties.
It is essential that the role is taken responsibly and that things are looked after as if the property and business belonged to you.
From time to time we will be requiring you to carry out tasks and responsibilities that fall outside those which you would normally associate with a 'free house sit' under these circumstances and in addition to the free provision of good quality accommodation, free vehicle use (if required) no heating or utility bills, satellite and sports tv, wi-fi, guests facilities etc, we will also financially reward you for your input.
The apartments are in a beautiful rural location in a small working village named Cumieira which is in the region of Penela.
Cumieira is a small working village with a population of around 300. It has a bar/cafe, cemetery, a Mother church with hourly chimes, a nursery and junior school and a day centre. As far as we know, we are the only non-Portuguese in the village.
The location is ideal for exploring all that this part of Portugal has to offer and is very close to the 1C3,1C8,1C2 and A1 road networks. There are main train Stations at Coimbra B and Pombal within a 30 minute drive. Some of the best beaches on Portugal's west coast are less than an hours drive away.
For a number of reasons, both my wife and I are spending a lot more time in the UK at the moment than we would wish. That is why any couple coming on board would be required to be able to 'think on their feet' when so required to deal with any problems that might exist with the property, pool, guests, pets etc.
We are not without local help and back-up, but this cannot always be put in place at short notice (people who have experience of living in Southern Europe will know what I mean) so a history of problem solving, some basic mechanical and maintenance skills and most of all a calm and logical approach are prerequisites for the post.
Although we offer all year bookings, the reality is that the busy months are from July through to October, although you never know and the earlier spring and summer months can from time to time be busy. Outside of the season there is not so much to do and therefore allows you a lot more time for yourselves. If we are around and you want to take time off now and then, this is not a problem
