About this assignment

House sitter must be comfortable living in barn studio - glamping deluxe! This space is beautiful but rustic. Ideal for the person who is used to off the beaten path vacations and remote locations. Ideal for an individual/couple who wants to get away from it all and live on a ranch surrounded by animals. Prior horse experience is required. An experienced horse person will also be able to ride while house sitting.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

We have three super friendly dogs, horses and chickens that need care while we are away. Dogs need to be fed twice daily and walked every couple of days. Our dogs live outside and do not come into the house. The house where dogs live is the main residence and a two minute walk from the barn. Chickens need to be fed in the morning and eggs collected in the afternoon or evening. Horses are turned out and only need to be fed in the morning but I do need eyes on them as they sometimes get cuts from being turned out or develop abscesses during wet times. There are also cows and sheep but they are low maintenance.

What are the good features of the property and location

Completely private accommodations in the forest surrounded by horses, chickens and cows. There are multiple walking paths which you can access directly from the property. Property is 34 acres in a gated ranch community. The beautiful town of Waimea is a 15 minute drive away. Some of the world’s best beaches are 30 mins away. Barn does have WiFi and minimal electricity to power mini fridge and lights. Outdoor hot water shower as well as flushing toilet.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

We are on 34 acres in the country. It is an amazing retreat but may not be for everyone. But for people who are looking for a a peaceful sanctuary it’s absolutely amazing here. Also, there are no street lights on our road and nights are quiet and dark. The stars can be incredible! As we live in the Hawaiian rain forest it can be wet. We are also at a higher elevation so it can be cool. As mentioned before, in 30 minutes you can be at the Kohala coastline in 90 degree weather. It’s the best of both worlds!
