About this assignment

I need someone who can help me out taking care of my two dogs, three chickens, cats and plants, during Ironman week. I will also be home, but only for a few hours, or to sleep. The stay is for at least 3 days, Thurs., 10/8, Fri., 10/9, and Sat. 10/10, but could be up to about a week.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Two Dogs - Each fed once a day with a homemade dog food (veggie/rice mix with raw chicken). The sitter will need to prepare the rice and veggies (both are prepared about once a week). They need to be let out to use the restroom at least twice a day, and walked twice a day.

Cats - We have many cats that come in and out through a cat door. Their bowls will need to be filled with food twice a day.

Three Chickens - Once a day the chickens will need food, water, and their sleeping area of the hen house to be washed down with a hose. Their eggs will also need to be collected.

Plants - The plants will need to be watered every day.

What are the good features of the property and location

The Big Island of Hawai'i (largest island of the archipelago) is home to almost all of the Earth's climate zones, rare endangered species, the world's largest volcanoes, and rich human history.

Our home is located in a small quiet residential area on the sunny side of the island. It is a bit of a drive from the nearest town, yet is close by a small market, coffee cafe and local eatery. A ten minute drive away is the coastal resort area with beaches, shops, restaurants, and attractions. A small walk away is a park with fields and playing equipment for kids.

Our house has a kitchen, dining/living room, two bathrooms with showers, three bedrooms plus one converted garage bedroom. We have a view of the pacific, four great volcanic mountains (inactive), and the island of Maui in the distance.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

The Hawaiian Islands are amongst the furthest from the closest land mass. At this isolated location in the pacific, the islands receive trade winds almost constantly. Because it can be very windy outside, dirt will sometimes come into the house. So we will provide a vacuum cleaner.

For the beaches, we can expect large wave action on certain days, so watch the surf before going into the water.

Because our side of the island receives the lowest rainfall, please be considerate with your water use. On top of that, the utilities will be paid for the amount we use. Nothing above or beyond that. There will be a security deposit.

You will not need to worry about tsunamis since the home is at a high elevation. You will not need to worry about the volcanoes erupting. The active one is on the other side of the island.
