About this assignment

A person who will enjoy living by a river in Andalucia, and is resourceful and responsible. We have a 3 hectare property with 2 houses, 200 orange trees and a fruitful vegetable garden.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Varied. We have a lively dog, Tilley - a lurcher type - who loves going for off-lead walks along our valley. Also several hen's eggs are currently under incubation! There are two houses on the property (150m apart) and the house sitter would live in the smaller one whilst looking after the other. There is a new swimming pool which also serves as the source for watering the property.

What are the good features of the property and location

Beautiful location on the Rio Genal, with views of mountains to the front and behind. The finca is being restored along traditional Spanish ecological lines. Though rural, we have mains electricity, internet and water from our own borehole. There are excellent walking and bird-watching opportunities in the area. The "white village" of Gaucin is 10 km away, (shops and countless bars where the nightlife takes place) and the Costa del Sol and Gibraltar (airport) are less than one hour away. Malaga (airport) is 90 mins drive.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

A couple is preferred (instant company!) unless you are a single person happy to be by yourself. The person must be physically fit and able, as we live on a slope! There are a half-dozen other residents - mostly English-speaking - along our lane, all very friendly. The property is 1.5 km from the main road, and 10 km from the nearest town. Own transport is essential (unless you fancy a long walk direct to the village!).
