Someone who communicates well, is detail oriented, loves cats and is familiar with a farm lifestyle. The perfect house sitter must be observant, easy going and willing to be present on the property while we are away. Previous experience with large animals is not required but is desirable. Previous cohabitation with cats is a must. Our place is a work in progress and is not for the fussy types or those who can not take the heat or humidity of the Maryland summers.
Daily care of the small herd of 16 alpacas.
Feeding and oversight of 19 very well socialized, rescued cats with indoor /outdoor routines.
Health monitoring of all animals (all are in good health).
Cats and alpacas are fed twice daily and alpacas are offered cool
squirts from the hose in hot weather.
We also have a small flock of guinea hens which offer comic relief and require little to no attention.
Regular check-ins via email or text.
We are located in the rolling hills of Northern Baltimore County, 40 minutes from Baltimore's cultural district and less than an hour from Pennsylvania Dutch Country. Antique shops dot the county and surrounding towns. Our place is humble but comfortable and in a peaceful rural setting but 15 minutes from "town". Our road is quiet but not completely isolated. We are close to hike & bike trails and in the middle of horse country. We have wireless high speed internet access and quiet air conditoned office and studio space.
A love of rural lifestyle and animals is crucial. The ability to keep lines of communication open is key. We make an annual trip every summer and would love to have someone who is interested in an ongoing "date" with our farm. In addition there will be other times we will need to travel for family related needs. We need to meet in advance and would ask for the house sitter to come two or three days prior to our departure to ensure a smooth transition the first time out.
