We're hoping to find someone who enjoys escaping to the countryside, loves animals and doesn't mind being remote. Transport essential. We are very grateful indeed for the opportunity to escape for 7 to10 days about 4-5 times a year to french shores of Lake Geneva where we have many friends and a small boat. We used to have a home there as well but we sold up to build an eco-home here. We hope, if possible, to have the same regular sitters, so you can become familiar with us, our life and our pets. Egg lovers are preferred!!. We prefer unpaid sitters because their motives are usually to discover and explore a new part of the world and care for pets they may not otherwise have access to. We cover out of pocket expenses of course and expect you to use the contents of our stock cupboard, fridge and freezer and make yourselves at home. We leave all the food the animals should need and leave them all with clean fresh bedding and plenty of old spare towels etc.
We welcome a pre visit inspection! Please do come for lunch.
We have 1 golden retriever, Harry and 2 young Cockerpoos, Bentley and Brewster, 1 cat Haddon and about 12 chickens who all need feeding and walking, well even the cat likes to go for walks! It is a busy life here, you will enjoy it more if you are relatively fit and well, have plenty of common sense. If you want a day off to explore and escape without having to take the dogs or come back to let them out, we can arrange for lovely local daysitters to come over.
We have a fabulous 3 acre plot up a farm track with glorious views over fields, woods and valleys. We are still in the process of building our main house but a guest annex is complete and fully landscaped and we are living in it whilst we finish the build. The plot featured on the TV programme "Build, buy or renovate" beacuse of it's unique location. The annex is light and sunny and very eco-friendly with it's own water supply. Finished in local stone with triple glazing and a woodburner it is warm, cosy, compact and bijou with small kitchen, lounge/diner, spiral staircase leading to double bedroom and wetroom/bathroom! We are just completing a small lake, orchard and outdoor heated swimming pool. The villages of East Northamptonshire/Rutland are very pretty and are built of cotswold-like stone with numerous Inns and many excellent walks, not to mention cycling around Rutland Water. There are forestry commission tracks to walk nearby and walks from the door including a bluebell wood. Although we feel remote, the market town of Oundle is just 5 minutes or 2 miles away, with a supermarket and many lovely old fashion shops including Butchers, bakers, shoe shop, excellent boutique etc. The coaching town of Stamford is worth a visit and also Oakham and Melton Mowbray. Peterborough, at 10 miles away has a John Lewis and modern precinct. Our area is well kept secret, the first thing you will notice is how little traffic there is around this here. Although the area around the annex is well landscaped, parts of our plot are still very much a building site complete with mud and the annex is small. There are no neighbours to annoy! If you want to BBQ topless while listening to Classic FM at max volume thats fine!
You need to be OK with being remote surrounded by open farmland and living a rufty tufty rural life, there's always plenty to do here and it's not exactly restful. Nearest village is 1 mile away. Nearest neighbours are 1/2 mile away. Fotheringhay, our nearest village is on the river Nene and Mary Queen of Scots was imprisioned here. It has a stunning church and an old Inn with good food. Please note this is a short term house sit only for variable periods of time throughout the year.
