About this assignment

Last Winter Spunky loved her baby sitter and we were very pleased as well. We invited her to come back at any time.

We also had a nice couple with two children this past Winter 2011. They came from Seattle, WA. They took good care of our house and our Spunky.

We need a flexible person or couple who loves our kitty. We want a sitter who does not smoke, do drugs, social drinking is OK.

We might need sitters on variable dates this year. Pehaps late Spring and Summer 2012.

Must be responsible and kind. Single friends or partners are OK.

The dates are flexible, can be from Spring to Fall 2012.

We would like for you to arrive about 3 or so days before our departure so that we can give you a quick tour of the town and the details of our house.

The sitter would need to arrive in San Diego California, or Tijuana Baja California airport. We probably can pick you up at any of these airports, providing that your arrival time is not after dark.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Care for our home and kitty. Must be in the house mornings and nights, which means you will not be able to do out of town trips that require overnight stays.
Clean cat litter box mornings and nights.
Serve cat food and water once a day.
Play with Spunky indoor soccer before bedtime, brush her hair once a day.
Keep home neat and clean as if it were your home.
It might rain in the Winter, although it is the desert we have the ocean on the West..
Spunky is gracious and sweet.
Loves to sight see through the windows.

There is no compensation, other than free lodging. You will take care of the electric bill, only for those days that you are here; if the electric consumption is reasonable we might help you with this as well. Mexico has a complicated power usage rate system. This can be an unpleasant surprise. Our sitters in 2011 paid $260 dlls., for one month plus, when our normal electric bill is about $80 dlls.

We will issue you a local cell phone for emergencies or to call a cab for transportation. We will pay for stove and hot water gas.

 

What are the good features of the property and location

The weather is normally nice, but in the Winter it could be damp and cold.  We added insulation to the roof and exterior walls and a gas heater for the master suite, which has helped a lot.
We are near the beach-- 3 miles reached by car is easy. It is not within walking distance due to traffic and lack of side paths on the highway. In town you can walk everywhere.
Public transportation is easy and cheap, requires .06 miles of walking down and up a hill.
We have a terrace with a view of the city and ocean.

No garden to watch
no carpets
semi-rural setting -- not all urban amenities are present - water is supplied from a private well, the use of the pump is simple once you learn the required 3 steps.
we are located near everything by car or taxi, or if you are a good walker, about 3 miles from main center.

We will issue you a local cell phone for you to communicate in town. From the house land line there are unlimited long distance calls only within Mexico.

Single person, Couples, or Single Friends are welcome to babysit Spunky together.

IMPORTANT NOTE: if you have mobility problems or chronic conditions that impair your mobility or strentgh this might not be the adventure for you as our home is located on a steep hill that requires some walking (.06 miles), especially if you need to take collective transportation.

There is no central heater and air, the temperatures in town are normally not extreme; however this could change in the Winter in an unpredictable manner. Bring one Winter jacket, windbreakers, or light sweaters. Pack lighly as you may use our raincoats L and XL and you will have access to any toiletries.

We have portable and ceiling fans. Please check the weather conditions for our area prior to your agreement with us.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

No drugs, No smokers, No party in our home. We want safe and reliable sitters. No dogs, as our Spunky is allergic to dogs. No strangers in the house. There will be a signed contract, drafted after the mind my house template.
