What is house sitting?
Simply put, house sitting is the practice whereby a home owner, leaving their house for a period of time, entrusts it to one or more "house sitters", who by mutual agreement are entitled to live there rent-free in exchange for assuming responsibilities such as taking care of the homeowner's pets, performing general maintenance etc.

We’ve been using Mind My House now for I’m sure almost 15 years and have always had great house sitting experiences, travelling the world and meeting interesting people and of course, lovely pets. More recently we have also joined as house owners as well as house sitters and regularly use Mind My House to get reliable and kindly people to look after our own dog while we travel and housesit. It is a great platform and I’d thoroughly recommend it (and often do) to anyone interested in starting house and pet sitting or who needs a pet sitter while they travel.

Dear MindMyHousie’s, seasons greetings to you all. Susan and I also send you our best wishes for the new year of 2026. In this special seasonal edition of the MindMyHouse News, we are introducing a long awaited upgrade for house sitters and home owners: the Availability calendar for sitters and Date filtering for owners! We have also made a few other tweaks to the site: Sitters can now search assignments by more continents, and sitter alerts now include date searching. We also wanted to comment on the booking fees introduced by "you know who". Oh, and we have a new homepage design, and checkout the assignment annual heartbeat…

Dear MindMyHousies, did you know that MindMyHouse is having a very significant birthday this year? Yessssss it’s true! Our glorious global online house sitting platform was officially born on 22 February 2005 – a whole 20 years ago now. Wowsa.
