I'm a 47 year old female ESL teacher originally from New Zealand, but now based in the UK (and with EU citizenship). I've spent the last 18 years teaching in various exotic parts of the world, laying the groundwork for a network of online students.
I'm looking for a house sit where I (preferably) have some affectionate animals for company and where I can indulge my passion for outdoor activities.
In addition to the obvious advantage that house sitting allows me to get to know places in a far more personal way than I could by staying in hotels or hostels - a great travel experience from a local perspective! I started my online teaching business in earnest a while ago so I have the option of seeing other interesting parts of the world and taking my work with me.
I returned to the UK a few years ago after finishing a teaching contracts in Moscow and Beijing. Before that I had four consecutive housesitting assignments in Darwin, Australia while lecturing part-time at the local university.
I've also had a 5 week assignment in Turkey, following six months in North America, where I had house sits without pets in British Columbia and Montreal for 7 and 4 weeks respectively, followed by a three week detour down to Louisiana to look after a cat and elderly dog, then back up to Canada again for a 10 week assignment near Vancouver.
All of my recent sits have been in the UK due to the pandemic.
I'm a mature, responsible, personable (but not particularly social) professional who would treat every house as I do my own. At this stage of my life, I'm happy with my own company or that of animals - particularly those that entice me away from the laptop on a regular basis!
Because I'm trying to maintain a student base for my online business, I'd behave like a working professional (not just someone there on holiday) and would be at home providing company for your pets most of the time :)

Andrea, who has just been house sitting for us for two weeks, looked after our house and pets beautifully. She was efficient, reliable and took excellent care of our injured dog, taking him to his vet appointments and keeping us fully updated. We really felt our animals were in safe hands. I would happily invite her to house sit for us again, and highly recommend her.
Andrea was the perfect choice for looking after our cat Tilly. From the outset communication was easy and we were at ease during our 2 week holiday, safe in the knowledge that our cat and our home were in good hands. When we returned the house was immaculately tidy and Tilly was well fed and watered. I would recommend Andrea for any house sitting assignment.
We had Andrea house and cat sitting for full month in August. She made a great impression since the first time we spoke and also when we met. She took great care of our house and cat. There was a situation when our cat went missing for couple of days (as we have a cat flap and our cat is used to go outdoors whenever he wants) and she informed us and also helped asking the neighbors and finding out that the cat was actually around, just enjoying the outdoors for a longer while :) I think that Andrea handled the situation very well and I am grateful for that. She also left the house in perfect shape, even cut the grass and left us some breed in the fridge. Nice touches which I didn't expect and made a nice difference on our return. I can recommend Andrea with open heart and would welcome her again on coming occasions.
Andrea has been an excellent house sitter. Our pets (Freya the dog and Milo the cat) have been well cared for and loved in our absence. It was very reassuring for us to know they were happy and settled. Andrea has kept in touch and let us know how our pets are doing, kept the house tidy and maintained our garden well. She is organised and very friendly. We couldn't have asked for more! We have no hesitation in recommending her to others for house sitting. We wish her every success and happiness in the future.
Andrea was in my flat with my very difficult non social cat, and managed to befriend the cat (or what passes for befriending my cat, she was allowed to comb her!) Aside from this astounding turn of events, Andrea was conscientious on all things I had specific instructions for and careful to follow my requests. She left the flat clean and tidy and there were no problems the entire month I was away. My varied plants all had specific needs and everything was paid attention to. A simple accident occurred of a cheap soap dispenser being broken and Andrea kindly and very thoughtfully went out of her way to buy another one, it was really not necessary but shows the kind of house care she provides. I would ask Andrea back should she want to spend more time in Berlin!!
I registered to the homepage in January this year, when I got a research grant to spend 3 months in Malaysia, and we decided to go together all the family, except the fifth member: our cat. I must tell that I have never even heard of cat sitting before, I came across this possibility on internet. We are a family from Budapest, and first we had mixed feelings about the idea of letting a stranger in our home… until our Skype meeting with Andrea. We were contacted by a dozen of sitters, and Andrea was the first one we talked to – but then we didn’t want to talk to anyone else. She is the person you immediately feel that your home and your pet will be in good hands: her personality and her pet-sitting experience are very convincing and from the first moments it was obvious that she is a problem-solver. Her background is English Language Teaching (ELT), and we found out already in this first talk that we have similar ideas about teaching, and we see the world quite similarly. When she arrived in Budapest, our first good impressions were absolutely confirmed: Andrea is very friendly and highly professional, so we left with a perfect peace of mind. During the whole stay abroad, we were quite reassured and effectively on our return we found the house and the cat in a perfect shape. Our only problem was that our cat Maszat only wanted to hear about Andrea, which left us a bit offended :). While we were in Malaysia, Andrea kept us informed about everything important. Happily, only minor problems arose but she solved them perfectly, and had excellent own initiatives (for example she suggested that we have our cat protected against ticks, as the cat goes out and in spring this might cause problems – she went to the pharmacy and bought a lotion for the cat. We do the same every year but with our trip we just forgot about it). To sum up, we are very happy that we had Andrea as a cat-sitter in our home for 3 months. Undoubtedly, we would warmly recommend her for future house- and pet-sits.
