About this sitter
Hey fellow travelers! We're Asia and Russ, married writers from the Bay Area, CA. Back in 2011, we left our home to travel across Asia. Asia writes for theater and film and Russ is a journalist — skills that have really enriched our travels. Our time in Asia was magical and inspired us to continue exploring. We’ve been roaming ever since with nothing but our backpacks and barefoot shoes.
Having bunked in our fair share of hostels and guesthouses, our souls were ready for a retreat.
At some point in our journey, we learned about the joys of house sitting. Comfortable homes? Adorable pets? Full kitchens? Sold! So, we got on it.
Since then, we’ve been lucky to look after some incredible homes in places we might never have discovered. Every home and pet comes with a quirk that replenishes our creativity and spirit of adventure.
Why they want to house sit
House sitting has been a great way for us to expose ourselves to new worlds and meet project deadlines while enjoying the comfortable, unique spaces created by fabulous homeowners (such as yourself).
Our ideal house sit is a writer-friendly place with peaceful vibes. We also enjoy regular walks/hikes and exploring the outdoors. It keeps us — and your pets — in great shape!
Their experience
As travelers for over a decade, we’ve made many furry and feathered friends through house sitting — from a Cheshire-ish cat and a fabled hen to a blind dog and a rambunctious rabbit.
Other adventures in house sitting include:
1) Caring for 11(!) kitties for four months at a beach bungalow in Puerto Rico
2) Tending to a wild garden for three months at a remote cottage among sheep and Highland bulls in Scotland
3) Rounding up chickens, collecting eggs, and cleaning the hen house at an eco-art gallery for two months in rural Mexico
4) Comforting a rescue cat at a duplex for three weeks in an archery village in Austria
And much more. We'd be happy to share tales of our history with pets (and plants, too!), along with references — just ask!
What can they bring to the assignment
As writers who work from home, we spend a lot of quality time with your pets. They can get all the affection they want and need. (Many pets that have been described to us as “aloof” or “standoffish” end up getting real cozy and comfortable in a short time.)
Living on the road, we also know the value of cleanliness. Basically, we’re both super neat freaks, so rest assured, we’ll keep your space tidy, clean and in good hands.
You can count on us to be honest, responsible sitters with positive energy and healthy lifestyles. We’ll also keep you updated with regular emails and playful pics of your pets while you’re away.

This was my first time using a sitter and I was a bit nervous especially since parrot care can be a little different than taking care of a dog or cat. As it turns out, I had no reason to be nervous because Asia and Russ are amazing! Great communication from our initial video call to my return, lots of questions about how to make sure my parrot was happy and healthy, and my flat was left absolutely spotless when I got home. I would give them ten stars if I could.

100% recommend
Asia and her partner Russ stayed at my house for a week and cared for my 2 cats. We facetimed as an "interview" and then met in person to handover the keys and run through the basics before I set off on holiday. They are an absolutely delightful couple and I was extremely happy with their sit. Comms throughout were excellent. Asia sent photos of the cats with cute little updates, and I returned to an immaculately clean home, with the bedlinen stripped and washed and a cake in the fridge. Wonderful. They took great care of my home and pets and I'm very grateful for their efforts as I had total peace of mind whilst away on holiday. I would book them again in a heartbeat . 100% recommend . Second time - as fantastic as first time
Asia and Russell sat for us for a second time and were every bit as fantastic as housesitters as the first time! They were really responsive before and during the sit, sent us regular updates and looked after our house and pets with great care. They left the house super tidy and clean for our return, and took care to check a few final details with us before they left. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them as sitters.

Asia and Russ have been sitting for a long time and it shows. We felt super comfortable with them immediately. After a brief conversation, Asia and Russ were really flexible in timing and and the arrangements of coming over to pick up keys and meet the cats for the first time etc. This was effortless for us, Asia and Russ were super organised and self sufficient. They gave daily photo updates and the cats were really well taken care of, as were the plants and the rest of the home. Sitting in a house in Japan has it's own challenges but Asia and Russ had no issues figuring things out. We came back to a home sparkling clean, I'm sure cleaner than we had left it, with the cats healthy and happy. Thanks again guys, would love to have you again in the future!

Asia & Russ are AWESOME
Asia & Russ are AWESOME! Their communication and photos were excellent! I did a lot of cleaning (for me/this apartment) before they got here, but they still managed to leave it even cleaner, and they left the kitchen absolutely spotless! I'm certain the stove is cleaner now than how we left it. I feel like they gave this whole apartment a deep clean that we should've paid a few hundred dollars for. I also didn't expect all of our sheets and towels to be washed when we got back, but they were! They also vacuumed, and my first floor which always collects dirt immediately after being swept/vacuumed/mopped was spotless. It was really nice to come home to our apartment being so clean, especially since we got home late and exhausted. They have a lot of experience with kitties, and they were ok with our cat situation even though it's a little spicy at the moment. We are introducing Ricky to Juice & Bubbles, and Ricky sometimes marks if he gets stressed out. Ricky doesn't have much experience with other cats as far as we know, and Bubbles doesn't understand other cats' boundaries. I felt very guilty sticking them with this situation, but they handled it flawlessly! They got the cats to vibe out together and take naps in the same room on several occasions and sent us lots of pictures. Also, it seems like Bubbles has learned to entertain himself a little bit better. We're really grateful for Asia & Russ's sitting! I hope they can sit for us again another time, and we would definitely be willing to let them crash here when we aren't on vacation!

Lovely people
Asia and Russ were lovely people, we met them and spent a day with them before travelling and got to show them round. They looked after Arya beautifully and kept us updated with photos and videos whilst we were away giving us lots of reassurance she was OK. This was particularly important as we had lost her brother a few weeks before when he was run over by a car.

Asia and Russel did an amazing job
Asia and Russel did an amazing job looking after my cat! Their contact before the sit was great. They arrived on time and are super friendly! Their contact during the sit was excellent, they sent me updates of my cat looking very chilled. When I came home my house was spotless. They had even washed the bedding and towels and remade the bed! And my cat was very happy - she didn't seem bothered at all that I had been away. I would definitely recommend Asia and Russel and would happily have them back to sit again in the future!

Asia & Russell were wonderful house sitters - experienced, organised and thoughtful. They took great care to understand what was important to us and were great at communicating with us before and during the stay. They sent regular updates, forwarded any queries promptly to us (it was quite a long housesit) and were lovely to deal with. Second time
Our overseas travel plan was suddenly cancelled due to covid...so we had to adjust our travel plans to a much shorter trip domestically. When we informed Asia and Russell, they were graciously rescheduling their plans to see if they could still take care of bunny for us, knowing how last minute changes can really throw your plans off, we truly appreciate their flexibility and adaptability. This is our second time having them housesit, and I wouldn't hesitate to reach out for the 3rd time. ;)

Conscientious and thoughtful housesitters
Asia and Russell are conscientious and thoughtful housesitters. This sit was a bit strange, because it was not possible to meet them ahead of time, which created a couple of very minor issues. They were really nice about giving me updates and checking in with me about how the cats were doing, though of course Zoe hides from everyone, including them. I was very happy with how they left the house.

I would welcome them back in a heart beat
Asia and Russel are a great team to have watched my home and pets, even feeding my feral kitty. Since my home had been sold I was extra cautious about having strangers watch over it. Not to worry! Asia and Russell were the best
Asia and Russell were the best. Relaxed, personable and experienced pet sitters, totally reliable, left the house tidy and 3 dogs and a cat happy. They are writers, doing both distance and personal work, and less oriented toward tourism, as some pet sitters are. That means they will be in the house and with the pets a lot, which to us is a good thing. New or awkward situations won't throw them because it looks like they've done this about 25 times, all over the world! When there is a problem -- one of the dogs wounded itself somehow on our country property -- they were in touch immediately. Can't recommend them highly enough. (Also really enjoyed chatting in the overlap before and after the sit.)

We loved having Asia and Russ as our house and cat sitter! Asia was communicative and thoughtful throughout their stay.
