About this sitter

I am an independent Englishman in my early 50’s who enjoys having quiet space, time to write and meditate. I have a great love for animals, being dedicated to their protection and care (until recently, I was a longstanding volunteer with an animal rescue centre, particularly dedicated to giving a home for abused ponies and abandoned pets, and I regularly ride horses at a local school).

A former management consultant, I now work via the Internet, writing books (and narrating audiobooks for others), running occasional training workshops, and offering interfaith ministry services. My home base is Essex in the UK.

Travelling lightly, having no family ties and being physically mobile, I have excellent flexibility for moving from place-to-place, and at short-notice. Depending on location, I can usually travel with my own car.

Please visit my simple webpage, www.clivejohnson.me, to watch a brief, 4-minute video in which I introduce myself, and have included both my one-page profile, along with a possible house- and pet-setting agreement that you might want to download or print (this can be easily modified if required).

Why they want to house sit

I have enormous flexibility in where I’m able to live at the moment, so am very attracted to the idea of using my time to explore different areas whilst sampling local cultures and lifestyles. Pet-sitting gives me an opportunity to enjoy animal companionship which my current (mobile) lifestyle doesn’t easily allow.

Currently, apart from retaining a presence in my native UK (Essex/Brighton), I’m particularly attracted to spending time living in near European countries, motivated by a desire to enjoy the beautiful cultures of my near neighbours.

Short-term and late-notice home-sits should be possible for me virtually anywhere in the UK and Europe (where I need to bring my car, this may be more difficult for more distant destinations), though last-minute travel costs and logistics are likely to rule out longer-haul destinations, other than for longer periods.

Their experience

I have been house-sitting for more than 3 years now, with close to 30 different happy house and pet sitting assignments under my belt and all willing referees (many I have now sat for several times). I've undertaken several training courses in responsible pet ownership (canine and feline first aid, equine behaviour, keeping chickens) and looked after dogs, cats, geese, horses, budgies, tortoises, donkeys, goats, and chickens, as well as being a long-time volunteer for an animal rescue centre, a home for horses, llamas and donkeys.

What can they bring to the assignment

I will be a careful guardian of the homes that are entrusted to me whilst their owners are away, keeping their property clean, tidy and secure. When pet friends are left in my care, I will do my utmost to be a friendly human companion, exerciser, feeder and welfare-carer for them. I promise a clean and tidy house and warm welcome for weary home-owners when they return home from their travels.

I try to ‘tread lightly’ wherever I go, aiming not to leave a footprint of my presence and not requiring creature comforts to keep satisfied (I abandoned my TV several years ago). I’m happy largely living out of a small room, being at home in either the countryside or in the city, in a remote farmhouse or small tower-block flat, and am very ordered and tidy.

Testimonials

House / Pet Sitter Extraordinaire !

We were always going to be concerned at having a house/pet sitter for the first time. We needn’t have worried. Clive Johnson is one of a kind. He is absolutely the best person we could have had at our house and looking after our three dogs and four cats. They are looking forward to being looked after again, by Clive, in June. We returned from holiday to a very clean and tidy house. We thoroughly recommend his services to others.

You won't find better!

Clive has twice looked after our house and border collie, for 2 weeks last year, and again for 3 weeks in January of this year. We have absolute trust in him and go away feeling confident that our house and beloved dog are in safe and caring hands. He has a natural affinity with animals and it was obvious that he'd bonded with TJ (who tried to go with him when he left!!). Clive is tidy and very organised and we would recommend him with no reservation whatsoever.

Five weeks in France. Clive was perfect.

Clive came to our french farm for 5 weeks in Sept-October 2016, enabling us to have a dream holiday touring the South Island of New Zealand. Clive coped brilliantly with our HUGE menagerie of animals; 3 dogs, 3 angora goats, 4 chickens, 6 geese, 7 budgies, 2 tortoises, 2 donkeys, and over 20 ponies including unweaned foals. Clive is a quiet, intelligent, deep-thinking person who treads lightly on the Earth and in your home. He is kind, conscientious and fully commits himself to ensuring that the house-sit goes as planned. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Clive to others.

Clive looked after our house and two character cats in Nov 2015 - Jan 2016 when we were away for this period. We have absolutely no hesitation if recommending him as a housesitter. He is responsible, reliable, honest and has full respect for your personal possessions. He kept everything clean, neat and tidy, he was helpful in posting various things out to our customers when necessary and was very patient when the boiler/heating system broke down! Clive even managed to write and publish a book while keeping our cats company! He loved our cats and gave them lots and lots of love and attention!
