Hello, and thank you for viewing my profile.
I am a conscientious, experienced and energetic retired professional, attentive to detail in caring for your home. I am available for short or long term assignments, on short notice. My commitment is to provide you with peace of mind.
I am dependable, healthy and physically-fit, non-smoking, independent and quite mobile after several careers (electronics, nursing, pilot/flight instructor) and many travels. I have lived in eleven US states and have owned homes in most of them. I'm experienced with home maintenance and repair and am mechanically/electrically skilled and experienced. I have also refurbished several homes. I have visited many countries around the world, raised a family and made friends in many places, including many great experiences through Meetup and Couchsurfing. Though not fluent in French, I do have a working knowledge in the French language through my 9 trips to France over the years.
I have held security clearances for career and military positions, and I have a clear 'Intelius' criminal background check and a clear FBI criminal records check. (The latter two were obtained in anticipation of emmigration overseas.)
I am very personable, outgoing and capable, with attention to detail. I strive to leave places in better condition than when I arrived. I have good references from other contacts in the US and around the world, including multiple house-sitting experiences, all with very positive results. These are available upon request. I am flexible, streamlined and low-maintenance, enjoy the outdoors as well as dabbling in the stock market via laptop computer.

Everything went like clockwork
It was such a joy and pleasure to have Dean stay at our house for five weeks. Such a conscientious, methodical and intelligent thinker. He not only cared for the cat, but took excellent charge of our home to make sure it was maintained while we were away. He is an outstanding communicator, making sure that I was aware of activities happening in my home or responsibilities to which I needed to respond. From our first acquaintance via FaceTime through his departure, everything went like clockwork. He went out of his way to take care of small tasks for me which were not part of his responsibility as a Pet Sitter. I was grateful for his willingness to help me and that way as well. Dean was wonderful
Dean was wonderful! He was very accommodating with our schedule and early travel plans, coming the night before to make sure we could show him around. He’s also very great to talk to, and full of great stories! He took great care of our cats and our house, giving us regular updates and responding promptly. A delightful human being
Dean is a delightful human being. He stayed in our home for 10 days taking care of our 15-year-old cat, Noose, and we could not have asked for a better experience. During his stay, Dean communicated regularly and kept us updated on how Noose was doing, often sending pictures that reassured us our cat was happy and comfortable. Noose is not particularly social, but he absolutely loved Dean. Dean made sure Noose received his medication on time every day and even joined him for his favorite “porch adventures.” It can feel a little daunting to trust someone you don’t really know with both your home and your beloved pet, but Dean quickly put our minds at ease. He proved to be thoughtful, responsible, and incredibly attentive. When we returned, our home was even tidier than when we left it. Dean is charming, a great conversationalist, and clearly a very conscientious caregiver. We would welcome him back anytime and recommend him wholeheartedly to anyone looking for a trustworthy house and pet sitter.

I can’t say enough nice things about Dean
I can’t say enough nice things about Dean. Communication with him was great from the time he applied for the sit through the time that we said “goodbye” He genuinely cares for the people who he interacts with and certainly the pets that he sits for. We were very comfortable with him staying in our home and would welcome him back any time. Our cats were so comfortable with him, so I knew that he had given them attention and had fed them. They don’t mess around with people who don’t feed them. 😉 It’s comforting to walk back into my home and find that my pets are not distressed. Also, I can honestly say that the world is a nicer place with Dean in it! Don’t hesitate to accept him as your next sitter.

Reliable and trustworthy
I was thrilled when Dean was available to sit for our cat, Bully, while we were away. We first met last summer and was impressed by his attention to detail and concern for our Michigan home and cat. He demonstrated the same qualities last week at our Florida home. At my request, Dean arrived a day early so we could go over all the details and even though I did not have time to prepare notes for him, he asked all the right questions and took notes for himself. Bully is a quirky cat, but Dean finds a way to keep him entertained and within the boundaries of staying an indoor cat! What an absolute treat to have a reliable and trustworthy guy to have doing us such a big favor!

He was absolutely great
We were so happy to meet Dean -- he was absolutely great with our two cats and our home. We are usually better planners, but this 5-night sit over Christmas was a bit last minute. Dean definitely came to our rescue. Cats Winston and Snickers were obviously very well cared for. We loved his text updates and shared pictures. Ditto for our home -- everything was in tip-top shape and better than we left it. Once again, we met a really nice sitter. Thank you, Dean!

Super guy

This was our first time using a sitter for our 2 cats. When messaging Dean, he put us at ease and made sure to cover everything. Another 10/10 experience
Another 10/10 experience for us in that we scored Dean for our two cats. We knew things were going to go well when our scaredy cat was drawn to him immediately--like minutes after he sat down. Normally that would take a day or two. Dean arrived promptly, in fact, 5 minutes earlier. We had arranged to have Dean stay with us a couple of days to get acquainted and found him to be a great conversationalist. He is uber-polite and patiently listened to our instructions about the cats and house. He's very active/fit and took hikes and bike rides. He is energy conscious (even though we told him not to worry) by keeping temperatures on the conservative side. He's not much a cook (self proclaimed) so the kitchen was left spotless. Ditto his bathroom and bedroom. He communicated well with full paragraphs about the cats and his activities. He even took us to the airport for our early AM outbound flight instead of us using an Uber. We would have him again anytime.

A stress-free and enjoyable vacation
I knew as soon as we met Dean that we would have a stress-free and enjoyable vacation, knowing that our newish kitten and our home would be well taken care of while we were gone. Dean sent frequent updates and photos of himself and Bully, as well as the outdoor activities he discovered in our area. He also casually mentioned how he saved the day by keeping our MI walkout from flooding after the ejector pump joint came apart. How many pet sitters come with their own tools! We arrived home to find a very happy kitten, a clean house, and a well-watered basil plant. We thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Dean, who has traveled near and far. I feel we made a friend, not just a cat sitter, and I truly hope our paths cross again.

Everything was taken care of
Dean arrived at the agreed on time, ready to get oriented to my house, Murphy and the neighborhood. He is friendly, conscientious, and quite thorough. Murphy accepted him right away in his charming cat ways, which is always a good sign. When I returned 10 days later, the house was clean and tidy, Murphy was a happy camper and Dean was there to greet me to give me a recap and even carried my bag up the steps and into the house! I was able to settle in and completely relax after my trip as everything was taken care of!

Dean did a great job
Dean did a great job. The cats were happy, the house was very clean. He was even kind enough to wash all the towels and linens so that upon a tired return I wouldn’t have to worry about a thing. Definitely hope Dean is available for my next needed sit!
