About this sitter

--- BOOKED SOLID TIL END NOVEMBER 2018 (finishing in Ireland). We’d love to spend December/January/February in the Europe region - Paris / Amsterdam / Berlin all ideal BUT open to suggestions. Anywhere in Asia / Pacific also interests us - particularly keen on heading down to Asia in early 2019.

James (Australian) and I (New Zealander) are addicted to travel. We lived in Sydney, Australia for approximately 20 years - and then... we travelled from July 2012 to July 2013 - all around the world. From July 2013 - June 2014 we spent our first year housesitting in Sydney which was sensational.

James retired from the Royal Australian Navy after 23 years of service in December 2014 and we're now housesitting where ever the mood takes us - so far Europe has kept us very busy - we love the countryside but in particular love city-sits with culture galore! June 2018 was a milestone and saw us click over 5 full years of full time, international housesitting - Australia, Spain, France, Ireland, Malta, Cyprus, Italy, Netherlands, Turkey, Malaysia. Several of our sits are now "regulars" and great friends too!

Highlights of our housesitting career? Coming to the goat-pen in Ireland and finding Daisy had kidded within the last hour - looking after baby Stripey was incredible as it was touch and go a couple of times in her first few days. In Langkawi we were privileged to look after tiny Betty the cat who'd had a near-tragic, skull crushing encounter with a monitor lizard a couple of weeks prior to our arrival. Cleaning her various wounds (seeing her skull bone....!) and giving her medication twice a day was quite an adventure. Thankfully she came good - It's not the size of the cat in the fight... it's the size of the fight in the cat. We also enjoyed being Air BNB hosts of a guesthouse in Langkawi - keen to do more of that! Sounds strange but in Ireland we once pretended to be ‘dead’... so the trained search and rescue dogs we were caring for could demonstrate their incredible skills and find us in the wild.

Why they want to house sit

We want to housesit because, after 5 years, we can't imagine living any other way. New cities, new countries, new people, new animal friends, access to art, culture and music we would never see (or be able to afford) in Sydney, new experiences every day. By way of background, James and I are happily married, solvent, non-smokers. We are ridiculously house-proud and always leave homes cleaner than we found them (of course if your home is spotless... it will be as you left it!) We both love animals. If anything James is the "dog" person and I am the "cat" person - but I always enjoy our dog-sitting assignments because getting out for walks with company of the furry variety is so much fun. We spent a year travelling on long-service leave over 2012/13 and leased out our Sydney home. We couldn't bear to kick out our tenants, so when we returned to Sydney in July 2013 we took the plunge into housesitting and couldn't be happier.

Their experience

Yes! We have been housesitting full-time globally since July 2013 - so over 5years. Countries so far? Australia, Canada, Malaysia, Spain, France, Ireland, Malta, Cyprus, Italy, the Netherlands and Turkey. We have experience with dogs, cats, rabbits, chinchillas, fish (indoor and outdoor), guinea pigs, chickens, goats and goat-midwifery, swimming pools, lawns and sprinkler systems. We have been responsible for dogs and cats requiring medication and wound care. We have also run an Air BnB business during 4 months in Malaysia (on behalf of the owners) - with incredible references from the guests we cared for.

What can they bring to the assignment

We bring over 5 years of full-time international housesitting experience to the table with excellent references & police checks. We have experience with dogs, cats, rabbits, chinchillas, fish, guinea pigs, chickens, goats, swimming pools, lawns & sprinkler systems. And we're always looking for new challenges! We have owned our home and investment properties for 12 years and as homeowners we know how much your home means to you. We know how much pleasure a furry companion can bring to a home and how sad they can be in a cattery/kennel - it will be our privilege to care for them and your home during your absence to ensure your peace of mind - we are never more than a phonecall or email away and can always initiate a skype session with you so you can say goodnight to the fur-babies!

PS - You will see on some of James's references the name "Craig". That's his legal name - Craig Hardie - but since he joined the Navy 23 years ago he's been James to everyone but his mum! It's a Navy nickname thing based on his surname.
