We are fastidiously clean and respectful of other peoples' belongings. We take care of other folks' property as if they were ours.
I are from, and live, in the North of England. My home overlooks Morecambe Bay where we have the most beautiful sunsets.
We like to spend time south of here where the weather will be more agreeable.
I like to hike and bike. I am very fit. I try cycle 1000 miles per month! It's no fun riding a pushbike in the cold, wet & wind.
I do quite a bit of buying and selling on line so an internet connection is a MUST!
I am an early riser and usually early to bed. I don't smoke. I am NOT a party animal!
Why do you want to house sit? It's an opportunity to live and experience life in another place.....and hopefully get weather decent enough for me to get out on my bike most days exploring the local area. For Val, she likes to keep the animals company!
I grew up in the Yorkshire Dales on my family's small-holding (when I wasn't away at school).
I went to Giggleswick School - an historic traditional English boarding school. Following that I did Business Studies at Harrogate College....so I've had a good education.
On our small farm we had cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, ducks.....numerous cats, and always a couple of dogs. We never had horses but I am good with most animals and never have a problem making a connection with them. I 'feel' for an animal as if they were a fellow human, so I take care of them accordingly. I cannot bear to see cruelty or neglect.
I have house-sat several times in the past before this Winter, including looking after 2 horses, dog, 2 cats & 2 gerbils in Denmark, looking after a 49ft ketch in Mexico, a wheat farm in Western Australia and several properties in the USA inc. Oregon, Pennsylvannia. Numerous properties in Europe.
Am I experienced? Yes. Very experienced in LIFE. I'm well educated. I have done many different jobs, including:
-managing a wheat farm in Western Australia
-driving around the world in a Land Rover (95-2001)
-sailing across the Atlantic in a small (8m) sailboat....and sailing the Tasman, Caribbean, Pacific, Sea of Cortez and the Med. Crewing and delivering many boats.
-I am an experienced driver and have licences for trucks, buses and motorbikes along with my regular car licence.
-I have travelled extensively to well over 100 countries and experienced much, including many earthquakes, civil war, and the Tsunami (Sri Lanka).
-I look after myself very well and am quite a good cook. I am also handy at most things. I have renovated 2 houses and maintain my own vehicles.
I can get by in French and Spanish. I have basic German, (VERY basic) Chinese and Russian.
Val has recently retired from a regional management position at Marie Curie cancer charity. She has spent her whole career in Human Resources (what we used to call 'Personnel).
I can bring a dependable, honest, clean Yorkshireman to look after your property and pets. I have few ties at home and lots of time for myself so being anywhere is not a problem for me. I am self-contained!
I can also bring my long term partner, Val, with me. She loves animals too and is happy to keep them company at home whilst I am out for a bike ride. She has visited the Congo to see the Mountain Gorillas as well as Kenya to see the rhinos. She also supports her local animal rescue as a volunteer.

James and Val were great house sitters who looked after our house and animals really well. They have huge experience house sitting and it showed as they handled every situation with ease and commmunicated regularly leaving us feeling totally relaxed while we were away.
James looked after our cat and our rural property for two winter months, and we felt entirely confident in going away for that length of time: our first holiday away from the property and business for a few years! James was great at communication, and very considerate about all that needed looking after. We highly recommend James, what he says he will do he delivers...Thank you very much for all your help! Lisanne and Den
James has house sit for us on two occasions. Once at our home in Denmark and just recently at our house in Spain. Both times he has been very responsible and conscientious, taking very good care of our property/animals and keeping a good line of communication open with us. Not only that, he very kindly thinks about the cost of utilities and helped us keep those minimal. Highly recommended!
James looked after our house and animals very well, in Normandy and kept us informed by email of everything going on. House was lovely clean and tidy on our return and we would recommend him to anyone. Thank you James
James looked after the animals very well. On arrival home the house was spotless and clean and would recommend to anyone.
This was our first time using a house sitter and we couldn't have asked for more. James was professional, friendly, and extremely reliable. He went above and beyond by repairing a broken fence, and erecting a new one on our terrace. Not to mention dealing with a mouse problem we had (sorry to leave you with that James!) James also kept in frequent contact, sending photos of the work he had done. If you want a highly reliable, professional sitter with a lot of experience, then I would highly recommend James
James was our first house sitter, and as such we were very nervous about what to expect. We absolutely needn't have worried! He kept us updated, did all that was required in terms of the animals, was clean and tidy, and we have kept in touch since. We would certainly use him again, and we highly recommend him.
James looked after our cats and house beautifully. It was kept clean and tidy. The cats loved him and were very relaxed upon our return. He was very reliable, friendly and kept in contact at all times. We could not recommend him highly enough!
James was an excellent house-sitter for us for 6 weeks in November 2015. We left him in charge of a dozen sheep as well as 3 cats in our quite remote farmhouse in SW France. He sorted fences when there was a problem and kept us updated on any issues. James left the place clean and tidy and even collected the leaves from the drive and built a compost heap! Would highly recommend him.
