About this sitter

We recently completed a 15-month pet and house sit in Merida, Mexico and are looking forward to meeting new people and making new fur baby friends. We loved caring for and cuddling our home owners 10 cats and 2 dogs, all rescued animals, as well as keeping the pond fish happy swimmers. On this sit we were thrilled to have our own dog with us, especially as she recovered from two ACL surgeries during the house sit. As well as looking after the "Bakers Dozen", we managed two full time and three part time staff, the extensive property, and multiple rental units ensuring everything was tip top for the owner’s return. Taking humorous photos of the fur babies has become a hobby so emailing photos and notes is a regular occurrence.
Making sure your pets are well loved and your property securely cared for is our first priority. High speed internet allows us the ability to work from anywhere and provides flexibility to adjust and adapt our schedule to meet the needs of your pets and property. As full time house sitters who work from home, we are on site to act quickly when little things arise or in emergencies. Pools, ponds, gardens, septic tanks & fields, pumps, cisterns, toilet and/or electrical issues - we have dealt with them all, having owned, rented and house sat large properties in four countries.
Keeping your house spic and span is a necessity as Tamara is allergic to dust. People often mention that the house is cleaner when they return home than when they left. We love cooking, baking and trying new foods so you may receive some goodies when it is time to say goodbye. Living in Panama and Mexico for the last eight years has taught us to be very resourceful and adaptable in all kinds of situations and, while not fluent in Spanish, we are able to communicate in most instances. Easy going but organized, calm in emergencies and pretty unflappable, we take life as it comes with a sense of humor.

Why they want to house sit

Aware of how you feel, it is vitally important to us to make sure your pets are confident and happy, maintain their routine and training and feel loved while they are missing you. Making sure you can relax while away from home, knowing you have someone you can trust who will care for your pets and home as their own is our priority. Being grandparents to your fur babies fills the void of not being able to have our own pet along while experiencing living in other parts of the world. Whether it’s the company of your pets while we work, the enthusiastic greeting when we walk in the door, a walk in the neighborhood with the locals or simply snuggles at night, caring for your pets is an enriching experience for all of us.
House sitting is a fabulous way for us to participate in the sharing economy; our hope is to enrich your life while caring for your home and pets, to develop lifelong friendships and to make worthwhile contributions while living for short periods in different locations around the world. The opportunities you provide through house sitting to meet new people, explore different cultures, immerse ourselves in new communities and live like the locals is an amazing opportunity that we highly value, a true privilege. Seeking something different and more personal than a scripted tour, view out a hotel window or a resort holiday, we have chosen house sitting as a life style because we want to be world citizens rather than world travelers.

Their experience

An active, energetic couple engaged in sports and outdoor activities, we enjoy swimming and have maintained a backyard pool for over 25 years. Walks and actives with our dog, including gentle training, bring us enormous pleasure and quality relaxation. In the past, we fostered and trained a purebred German Shepherd for a police canine training program and have also had cats, fish and birds as pets. With considerable experience and lots of patience for the care of sick or recovering animals, we are presently caring for a cat with diabetes, thus are very used to cooking and preparing special meals and diets for both cats and dogs. We have also cared for blind and partially blind cats and our own dog has had six knee surgeries and numerous bone related injuries due to congenital abnormalities.
Running our own business, home schooling four very active children and countless hours of volunteer and community involvement have taught us to be extremely organized, detail oriented, adaptable, creative and resourceful. We were fortunate to travel a lot with our children and dog, becoming very proficient at making the best of any situation through tolerance and flexibility. We are well prepared to handle any type of emergency.
Over the years we have undertaken numerous renovation projects on our homes, custom built a house and supervised a restoration project for our landlord. We relish painting, decorating and gardening, although allergies have restricted gardening in the past few years, and we take great pride in keeping a home clean, safe and inviting.

What can they bring to the assignment

Peace of Mind!
Our involvement with sports and children’s programs requires frequent criminal record checks. In addition, as long term NEXUS, Global Entry, SENTRI, TSA Pre approved travelers, as well as Mexican residents, we have been thoroughly investigated by a number of world-wide police forces and agencies. “Applicants are screened for citizenship and immigration status, checked for criminal history and positive matches on U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), Royal Canadian Mounted Police(RCMP), United Nations, and Interpol terrorism and no-fly list databases and United Kingdom Police National Computer. Applicants who pass the initial screening are interviewed in person by agents of both U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Canada Border Services Agency (typically one right after the other).” As part of the application process we have finger prints on file in Canada, Mexico and the US as well as retina scans in Canada.

Tamara and Mike

Great couple, very friendly and reliable. Would have asked them to stay longer if the weather had not been so cold. They did not get very lucky with that. Everything was ship shape and the cats were looked after well. I would definitely recommend them to anyone and I hope we will see them back. Thanks guys, good luck with your next assignment.
