About this sitter

Hello! We are a husband and wife with a 7-yr old daughter. We love animals, gardens, houses, traveling, art, nature, reading, eating, chatting, and learning new things. We currently have 3 dogs. The longest we have been without a dog is 4 months. We've also had cats, chickens, and gerbils. We have fostered dogs, and also participate in rescuing and finding homes for feral cats. Additionally, both of us (the adults!) have volunteered at a horse rescue, mucking the stalls and grooming horses. We are looking to connect with animals, homes, and lifestyles different than ours, in order to see and experience the world, and share it with our daughter.

Why they want to house sit

We never met an animal we didn't love, or a place we didn't want to visit. When we travel, we prefer to rent a home and "live like a local," in order to deepen the experience. What interests us is immersion in a new place; cooking with local food, exploring new areas, etc. And animals make everything better and richer. We are equally happy and comfortable in city or rural settings, both are exciting to us. We aren't looking after animals just to be able to travel, we intentionally want this as part of our travel experience.

Their experience

Last year we did a 3 week sit in Southwest France for 2 dogs, 2 donkeys, and a cat. It was unforgettable, and incredibly enriching.
Additionally, we have taken care of many dogs in the States while their families are on vacations. We have looked after animals with cancer, diabetes, missing limbs, heart disease, kidney disease, blind and/or deaf animals. Our daughter is very respectful and gentle with animals. We are aware this is your home and would be very conscientious about it. We are homeowners ourselves, and have flower beds, as well as a very large vegetable garden that we enjoy tending to.

What can they bring to the assignment

We are incredibly responsible and take animal well-being very seriously. We love animals: being with them, taking care of them, nurturing them. We would not be gone for long periods of time, and we don't spend late nights out (our daughter's bedtime is 7:30!). Long walks, playing fetch, belly rubs, kisses, grooming, are all things we enjoy.
