About this sitter
Eddie is Scottish, a retired psychologist; Ruth is English, a retired social worker. We returned to the UK in Sept 2019, after living in Australia for 30 years. Prior to that We lived in Leeds. We love nature, travel, walking and animals. We've been house-sitting almost full-time since Sept 2000.
Why they want to house sit
House sitting allows us to explore the UK, Europe & further afield in a cost effective way. We love looking after animals and enjoy being useful doing odd jobs and gardening. We like to free up other people so they can travel or visit family & friends.
Their experience
We've successfully completed over 120 house sits (we're on 3 sites). We have looked after 110 dogs, cats, pigs, goats, alpacas, horses, donkeys, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, ducks, tortoises, fish and a dragon (bearded). We had a large house and garden in Australia along with a diabetic cat, who needed insulin injections. We are flexible, keen to improve our French & Spanish or learn other languages. Fantastic sitters

Extremely fortunate
We were extremely fortunate to have Eddie & Ruth looking after our dogs and house whilst we were away for 10 days. They were brilliant! Most importantly our 2 lurchers loved them and they clearly enjoyed being taken on some wonderfully long walks! It was the first time that we’d left the puppy but she settled with them very quickly. We had daily updates and photos which were really lovely to receive whilst we were away. The house was left immaculate with bedding already washed by the time we got home! Delighted to welcome them back anytime
Rug and Eddie sat for us for a week and looked after our menagerie of cats and ferrets. Very experienced
Edward and Ruth are a very experienced house sitting couple, they were good communicators both before and during the sit. They were both obviously dog friendly and were warm and loving towards Milo. They are very nice and professional people
We had good communication leading up to the sit and then had a couple of hours together on the day to show them around and introduce them to Reggie and Tank. Ruth kept us updated with photos and info on how things were going and made us feel confident that the dogs were getting the care they needed. We were back quite early but Ruth had the bedding already in the machine which am very grateful for. Sitters that you can trust
Eddie & Ruth kindly came to Spain to sit for us for just short of 5 weeks. They are the kind of sitters you want when leaving your home and pets for so long. They are kind, professional and reliable. We left knowing our home and pets would be well cared for. We met Eddie and Ruth the night before we left. We shared a meal and wine. They are well travelled people and we enjoyed the time we spent with them. Ruth kept us up to date with the house and pets. What was nice was that we didn’t have messages daily. Extremely happy

We cannot recommend Eddie and Ruth highly enough
It was our first time using house sitters and we had perfect ones with Eddie and Ruth. Sam and Seren are both rescue dogs and have their own issues, so kennels are not an option for us so trips to see our families are always separate but Eddie and Ruth with their patience allowed us some time away together to see our family. They arrived the evening before and this made us feel at ease as we got to know them, hear about their other house sits and most importantly Sam and Seren got to meet them and see we were happy. Before we left Simon went for a walk with Eddie and Ruth and dogs and was able to chat more about the dogs and their habits and when we left, we were very at ease knowing all would be well and dogs and house would be in good hands. We received photos and updates, and it was also nice to see that Eddie and Ruth were able to explore some of the local areas in North Ayrshire as well as walking Sam and Seren locally. We did not see them when we got back but our home was spotless, bedding washed, Seren and Sam walked and happy. This was all very much appreciated as I had developed a bad cold and chest infection over the last part of our holiday so coming home to clean house and happy dogs was perfect. We cannot recommend Eddie and Ruth highly enough and we would be very happy for them to sit for us again either here in Scotland or should we move back to Wales.

We horoughly recommend them
This was the first time that Eddie and Ruth looked after our 2 Springer spaniels. We met them the evening before so we could explain the complexities of our house and get to know them a bit. It was clear to us that the dogs would be in very good hands and communication throughout was really good. We received timely updates with photos and it was evident the dogs were getting some good walks and Ruth and Eddie were getting to explore our local area. We did not see them on our return but the house was spotless and they had washed and hung up the bedding. This sit worked really well and we would thoroughly recommend them and invite them back.

Eddie and Ruth came for just over 2 weeks to look after Charlie and our house. Everything was in safe hands with them, they are very experienced sitters. A lovely couple
Eddie and Ruth are a lovely couple, very easy to talk to and good with their communication before and during their sit. Our two spaniels had a lovely time while we were away! Eddie and Ruth were fantastic. As soon as I met them I knew our dogs and home were in very safe, capable and loving hands. We were sent regular updates along with photos which showed us that our dogs were happy and exercised. On arrival back the house was immaculate, the grass had been cut and Max and Marley walked to save us the exercise! Ruth and Eddi looked after our house, dog, two cats and 8 Alpacas for two weeks. Many thank for letting us spending a lovely vacation. Immediately after meeting them, it felt perfectly good. Eddie and Ruth were great sitters. They took really good care of our pets, especially our Border Collie Olive who is very shy with strangers but they managed to make her feel safe. Eddie and Ruth were absolutely wonderful! They were so adaptive with our changing plans. Our sweet husky suffers from regular seizures and unfortunately had one while we were away. They handled her with such professionalism and care. Our other dog was having some skin issues so they had to administer some topical and oral medicine and did so without any issues. They walked our dogs regularly, who desperately need it, and sent us regular updates as well. They were absolute angels in our home and were so laid back and kind. They left our home in better condition than they found it! We would absolutely love to host them again! We have absolutely no complaints.

We highly recommend
Oh what a jolly good time we had with Ruth and Eddie as our sitters (they're British, so yes, pun intended)! We had the great pleasure of spending time with them both before and after our trip. We enjoyed several walks and meals together, filled with fun conversation and happy laughter. Eddie fixed one of the meals, a vegetable curry that was so fabulous we almost licked our plates! Eddie and Ruth took excellent care of our house, car and pets. Such good care in fact that post-trip when we headed down to bed, two of our pets remained cuddled up on the couch with Ruth snoring and purring contentedly! So our only warning to anyone lucky enough to have this couple sit for them in the future would be, "Careful, your pets may end up liking them better than you!" Good, experienced hands
After Eddie and Ruth applied for our job we had a short conversation on the phone and decided we are a good match. They arrived shortly before we left, wish it would have been few more days to be able to avoid the very few small hiccups but we were happy to have them here. Knowledgeable and very capable animal lovers
Eddie and Ruth are clearly knowledgeable and very capable animal lovers. This was my first time but I was not disappointed. We have equines, chickens ducks dogs and cats so required people with experience, dedication and common sense. All of the animals were exceptionally well cared for to the point that the dogs sulked for 2 days after they left! Eddie and Ruth were our first sitters and I’m pleased to say that they were splendid . They arrived the night before we flew in order to meet the dogs ( a Cocker Spaniel and a Dachshund) and get settled in which worked well . They sent photos every day whilst on long walks and it was obvious that they were all having a great time and not missing us at all ! They were clean and tidy and made muffins for our return …. Happy and grateful
Very happy and grateful to Eddie and Ruth for their recent stay with Kimi and Ricky. They are clearly a very experienced and well organized couple and we could see that our dogs were going to be well looked after and cared for in our absence. This was our first experience of using a sitter and we found it to be excellent. We had one or two unforseen issues, for example with our heating timer, and would like to thank Eddie and Ruth for being so good about the problem. Eddie and Ruth are a delightful couple, extremely well organised and very friendly and easy to get on with, both with us and our two dogs. They were always efficient and helpful with keeping in touch both before and during the stay, and left the house exactly as we hoped we would find it, clean and tidy and sheets washed. The dogs were calm and happy on our return and had clearly been very well cared for, judging by how relaxed they seemed! We'd heartily recommend them to others and would happily have them back. Ruth and Eddie are a delightful couple, love animals and are extremely self sufficient. They are very experienced sitters and would whole heartedly recommend them. Billy the "Best Looking Dog in the Village" was so disheartened to see them go. He clearly had had a great time with them. Ruth and Eddie were not phased when there was an issue with the heating boiler. They just carried on with various work arounds and they managed very well. The house was clean and tidy when we returned and Ruth had baked some muffins for us which was very thoughtful. So, Good Job, Ruth and Eddie, thank you very much for taking care of Billy. Eddie and Ruth came to look after Jemima, Murphy and the ducks for a long weekend. Jemima had just been diagnosed with a gall bladder/liver problem so was on lots of meds but Eddie and Ruth took this completely in their stride. Murphy is a bouncy Dalmatian who needs lots of exercise and I know that this was done as we came home to relaxed and chilled out animals who had clearly been well looked after. The house was spotless as well with milk in the fridge etc which is always a joy to come back to when you've been travelling. I would have no hesitation in having them back if there were free (fingers crossed for next year!!) Thank you Eddie and Ruth and your next housesit is lucky to have you!!

Eddie and Ruth were fantastic, I really cannot recommend them more. We were new to Trusted Sitters, so a little nervous about leaving our family house, 1 large dog, 2 cats and 2 chickens with a stranger. Not only a little anxious about entrusting our pets, but we built our house 5 years ago, and have never left it in the care of someone else. However, Eddie and Ruth inspired confidence from the start. They popped round a week before to make sure they knew everything, which was actually so reassuring, as they asked everything they needed to know, and also it was great for us to meet them (and our children loved knowing who was taking care of our pets). The whole week went so smoothly, no issues at all, and extremely happy pets on return. We also left them a very boring task of regularly watering some newly laid grass seed, which they took on without complaint, and when we returned the grass was growing which was amazing. Our pets looked very relaxed and happy when we got back, which was just so wonderful, and a little note to give us an update. What really touched me was that flowers had been picked and left in a vase for us, the sheets cleaned, kitchen spotless, and they had also cleaned the fridge, a job I have not had time to do for ages! It really made going on holiday so worth it, knowing our house and pets were so well looked after. Eddie and Ruth are gold dust if you get them! I only hope we can next time.

Eddie and Ruth were fantastic
Eddie and Ruth were fantastic and I would not hesitate to recommend them both. They made the pet sitting process very easy and took fantastic care of our home and pets. It was a real shame to not be able to meet them in person but they made me feel very confident that our home was in good hands, both before and during their sit. We had to come home a little earlier from our holiday but Ruth and Eddie were extremely accommodating and did not mind heading to their friends/next sit a couple of days before planned which we thought was very helpful and kind of them. When we arrived home the house was spotless. I think the cats really missed their cuddles too!

I cant recommend them highly enough
We feel incredibly lucky to have had had Eddie and Ruth sit for us and our young cat and dog. A few days before we left our cat had a nasty accident and yet they were un-phased and amazing at handling all his additional needs and giving the love and care he needed to recover. We are forever indebted. Added to this they coped brilliantly with our very lively 7 month old Lab cross and he got lots of exercise, play and attention.They were wonderful in keeping us informed and leaving the house cleaner than when we left it! Very self sufficient and relaxed
Eddie and Ruth were perfect housesitters. Our cocker spaniel was well looked after and we received regular updates and photos of what they were doing. She was quite needy at first and they were very patient, giving her lots of attention and tummy rubs! The house was left immaculate and everything in order - in some instances cleaner than we'd left it! They were very self sufficient and relaxed which made it very easy for us to enjoy our holiday without worrying about anything.

They inspire confidence
Ruth and Eddie gallantly took on our newly diagnosed diabetic terrier and also our son’s 12 week old puppy, as well as the other dog and cats.. quite a handful!. Brilliant
Eddie and Ruth have been brilliant looking after all our animals and the house. Bonnie our border collies girl was a little bit apprehensive meeting them, but just like kids going off to school she soon warmed to them. A real pleasure
Ruth & Eddie are a lovely couple. They are very easy to get to know. They were very aware of the needs of Toby and the needs of the house. They did an excellent job of taking care of Toby. It was evident when I arrived home that Toby, had had a brilliant time. He was well chilled and a very happy dog. I appreciated, that my house was very clean and tired; plus Ruth had done all the washing of bed linen, towels etc. Eddie had also sorted out a couple of issues for me regarding the stair gate and a dripping tap in the kitchen. Brilliant house sitters
Eddie and Ruth were brilliant house sitters, we knew as soon as they arrived that the dogs would be in safe hands. Infact we think they probably had a better time with Eddie and Ruth than they do with us! We returned to two very content dogs who had obviously had lots of fun, exercise and love. Wonderful housesitters
Eddie and Ruth were z. We had planned to go away for 4 nights but our (and therefore their) trip had to be shortened due to changes in Covid rules over Christmas. They were very flexible to this and even an increase in the number of pets they were caring for. They had signed up to look after our two cats but were more than willing to care for our new additions (5 rescue hens) which I asked them about before they came. Communication before, during and after the sit was great. They arrived on time for an easy handover and were very friendly and at ease with animals (including our nervous rescue dogs). Unfortunately there was an issue with the heating which did not come on as programmed due to a faulty thermostat, which they informed us about and tried to fix but assured us they would manage with only the fire. Again this was very understanding especially as the situation was far from ideal for them on their Christmas break! We came home to a spotless house and clean and well-fed chooks. The cats were happy to see us but had obviously been well cared for. I have no hesitation in recommending them. You are welcome back anytime (for a warmer stay!)

Eddie and Ruth were just wonderful, from the minute they arrived I knew my boy was in great and loving hands. I had an issue with the heating whilst away and they didn’t complain one bit, but helped work with the engineer to help get sorted. I got daily pics and updates from ouzo (obviously using Ruth’s phone 😺) which really put my mind at ease and when I got home the house was spotless and they had even washed and hung the bedding out to dry for me! Ruth & Eddie were very relaxed in our home and settled in fast. This matters to us as it creates less stress for Castro and Harley. Ruth managed Harley's insulin injections with ease having had experience with her own cat previously and they also gave little Castro who has been poorly lately, all the love, consideration and extra care I could have wished for. Excellent house sitters
Eddie and Ruth were excellent sitters. The sit was planned before the virus situation and they were happy to change dates Scourie of times to accommodate our change of plan. They are a very interesting couple with a wealth of experiences. Nothing seems to faze them. They communicated well both before and during the sit. Our animals were well looked after and they informed us of relevant health issues. They left our home very clean and tidy and did everything we asked of them. We would love to have them back. Costa Rica farm sit
Eddie and Ruth looked after our place for 3 weeks. They took over from longer term sitters until our arrival. We unfortunately did not get to meet them. But we have a lot of experience getting house sitters and I knew they would be good! Everything went perfectly. Dogs happy, house fine, garden watered. Did a great job twice
Ruth and Eddie are a friendly helpful couple, obliging and amenable to assist in meeting your individual requirements, in our case five elderly Siamese cats. We were away in NZ and they arrived prior to our departure and quickly understood what was needed of them, and were happy to look after our aged menagerie. They are a friendly helpful couple, completely trustworthy and reliable. We would willingly have them house sit for us at any time. We mentioned that they have sat twice, as they came back prior to our return to fill in for a few days. We wish them well in the future, hopefully finding suitable properties to further their travels.

Friendly helpful house sitters
Eddie and Ruth are fun, friendly, reliable, professional people. They did a great job minding our house and garden and left it very clean and tidy. They are a very well travelled couple who are adaptable and used to coping with emergencies and when our boiler packed up they took it in their stride! We'd be more than happy for them to look after our home in the future.
