About this sitter
Eddie is Scottish, a retired psychologist; Ruth is English, a retired social worker. We returned to the UK in Sept 2019, after living in Australia for 30 years. Prior to that We lived in Leeds. We love nature, travel, walking and animals. We house-sat almost full-time for 6 years, but have recently bought a house & now do occasional sits.
Why they want to house sit
House sitting allows us to explore the UK, Europe & further afield in a cost effective way. We love looking after animals and enjoy being useful, doing odd jobs and gardening. We like to free up other people so they can travel or visit family & friends.
Their experience
We've successfully completed over 120 house sits (we're on 3 sites). We have looked after 150 dogs, cats, pigs, goats, alpacas, horses, donkeys, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, ducks, tortoises, fish and a dragon (bearded). We had a large house and garden in Australia along with a diabetic cat, who needed insulin injections. We are flexible, keen to improve our French & Spanish or learn other languages. We have many reviews on other sites, e.g. over 40 reviews on Trusted Housesitters and 30 on House-sitters UK (all 5-star bar one 4 star).
What can they bring to the assignment
We bring maturity, responsibility, intelligence and caring and experience of over 120 housesits. We will respect the home owner's wishes, follow the routines they have established for their animals and maintain a high standard of care for the animals and house.
We are adaptable, fit and active, vegetarians, non-smokers & we have a car (in Europe).

Reliable House Sitters

Excellent experience
Eddie and Ruth came for just over 2 weeks to look after Charlie and our house. Everything was in safe hands with them, they are very experienced sitters. We were sent regular photos and updates and Charlie loved cuddling up to Ruth in the evenings. We can highly recommend them to look after everything very well.

Excellent house sitters
Eddie and Ruth were excellent sitters. The sit was planned before the virus situation and they were happy to change dates Scourie of times to accommodate our change of plan. They are a very interesting couple with a wealth of experiences. Nothing seems to faze them. They communicated well both before and during the sit. Our animals were well looked after and they informed us of relevant health issues. They left our home very clean and tidy and did everything we asked of them. We would love to have them back. We can wholeheartedly recomend them.

Costa Rica farm sit
Eddie and Ruth looked after our place for 3 weeks. They took over from longer term sitters until our arrival. We unfortunately did not get to meet them. But we have a lot of experience getting house sitters and I knew they would be good! Everything went perfectly. Dogs happy, house fine, garden watered. These are dependable people and we recommend them to you!

Did a great job twice
Ruth and Eddie are a friendly helpful couple, obliging and amenable to assist in meeting your individual requirements, in our case five elderly Siamese cats. We were away in NZ and they arrived prior to our departure and quickly understood what was needed of them, and were happy to look after our aged menagerie. They are a friendly helpful couple, completely trustworthy and reliable. We would willingly have them house sit for us at any time. We mentioned that they have sat twice, as they came back prior to our return to fill in for a few days. We wish them well in the future, hopefully finding suitable properties to further their travels.

December in Dorset
Eddie and Ruth did a great job looking after our house and Saffi, our cocker spaniel. They were very easy to get to know and communicate with and dealt with any issues that arose when we were away. We would highly recommend them to anyone and hope we will see them back here again in the future.

Friendly helpful house sitters
Eddie and Ruth are fun, friendly, reliable, professional people. They did a great job minding our house and garden and left it very clean and tidy. They are a very well travelled couple who are adaptable and used to coping with emergencies and when our boiler packed up they took it in their stride!
