About this sitter
Eddie is Scottish, a retired psychologist; Ruth is English, a retired social worker. We returned to the UK in Sept 2019, after living in Australia for 30 years. Prior to that We lived in Leeds. We love nature, travel, walking and animals. We've been house-sitting almost full-time since Sept 2000.
Why they want to house sit
House sitting allows us to explore the UK, Europe & further afield in a cost effective way. We love looking after animals and enjoy being useful doing odd jobs and gardening. We like to free up other people so they can travel or visit family & friends.
Their experience
We've successfully completed over 120 house sits (we're on 3 sites). We have looked after 110 dogs, cats, pigs, goats, alpacas, horses, donkeys, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, ducks, tortoises, fish and a dragon (bearded). We had a large house and garden in Australia along with a diabetic cat, who needed insulin injections. We are flexible, keen to improve our French & Spanish or learn other languages. We have many reviews on other sites, e.g. over 40 reviews on Trusted Housesitters and 30 on House-sitters UK (all 5-star bar one 4 star).

Fantastic experience from start to finish
Fantastic experience from start to finish. Great communication leading up to the sit. My dog Sussie had a fantastic time as Ruth and Eddie love hiking so he was kept busy the whole 10 days. Eddie and Ruth are just the nicest people - it felt like we had known them for a long time, which just demonstrates their warm and friendly nature, they are very experienced sitters and were completely un-phased by our menagerie of animals, their calm relaxed manner was reassuring and gave us confidence that all would be well when we left - and of course it was, we had regular updates and photos which we really appreciated. We returned to an orderly house and happy pets. Fantastic sitters
Eddie and Ruth were fantastic sitters for our two collies. We returned home to a cooked meal and two contented dogs. We would thoroughly recommend them to any others requiring sitters, enjoying their company before and after our holiday. Perfect housesitters

Extremely fortunate
We were extremely fortunate to have Eddie & Ruth looking after our dogs and house whilst we were away for 10 days. They were brilliant! Most importantly our 2 lurchers loved them and they clearly enjoyed being taken on some wonderfully long walks! It was the first time that we’d left the puppy but she settled with them very quickly. We had daily updates and photos which were really lovely to receive whilst we were away. The house was left immaculate with bedding already washed by the time we got home! Delighted to welcome them back anytime
Rug and Eddie sat for us for a week and looked after our menagerie of cats and ferrets. Communication brilliant, house was spotless when we got home and pets and garden birds all happy and well cared for. Eddie and Ruth were great sitters
Eddie and Ruth were great sitters. Good communication before hand, arrived as planned. Checked out with us Stanley’s routine and preferences and how much contact/updates we would like during stay. Unfortunately we did not see them on our return but the house was left in good order with bedding washed and Stanley looking happy and well looked after.

Very experienced
Edward and Ruth are a very experienced house sitting couple, they were good communicators both before and during the sit. They were both obviously dog friendly and were warm and loving towards Milo. We had lots of nice photos of our dog Milo who was clearly having a fun time. The house was left clean and tidy. We would highly recommend them. They are very nice and professional people
We had good communication leading up to the sit and then had a couple of hours together on the day to show them around and introduce them to Reggie and Tank. Ruth kept us updated with photos and info on how things were going and made us feel confident that the dogs were getting the care they needed. We were back quite early but Ruth had the bedding already in the machine which am very grateful for. I would totally recommend Eddie and Ruth as Housesitters, they are very nice and professional people.

Sitters that you can trust
Eddie & Ruth kindly came to Spain to sit for us for just short of 5 weeks. They are the kind of sitters you want when leaving your home and pets for so long. They are kind, professional and reliable. We left knowing our home and pets would be well cared for. We met Eddie and Ruth the night before we left. We shared a meal and wine. They are well travelled people and we enjoyed the time we spent with them. Ruth kept us up to date with the house and pets. What was nice was that we didn’t have messages daily. Ruth and Eddie just got on with the sit knowing that we were on our holiday. Upon our return the dogs and our cats were happy and it really was like we hadn’t been away. Extremely happy

We cannot recommend Eddie and Ruth highly enough
It was our first time using house sitters and we had perfect ones with Eddie and Ruth. Sam and Seren are both rescue dogs and have their own issues, so kennels are not an option for us so trips to see our families are always separate but Eddie and Ruth with their patience allowed us some time away together to see our family. They arrived the evening before and this made us feel at ease as we got to know them, hear about their other house sits and most importantly Sam and Seren got to meet them and see we were happy. Before we left Simon went for a walk with Eddie and Ruth and dogs and was able to chat more about the dogs and their habits and when we left, we were very at ease knowing all would be well and dogs and house would be in good hands. We received photos and updates, and it was also nice to see that Eddie and Ruth were able to explore some of the local areas in North Ayrshire as well as walking Sam and Seren locally. We did not see them when we got back but our home was spotless, bedding washed, Seren and Sam walked and happy. This was all very much appreciated as I had developed a bad cold and chest infection over the last part of our holiday so coming home to clean house and happy dogs was perfect. We cannot recommend Eddie and Ruth highly enough and we would be very happy for them to sit for us again either here in Scotland or should we move back to Wales.

We horoughly recommend them
This was the first time that Eddie and Ruth looked after our 2 Springer spaniels. We met them the evening before so we could explain the complexities of our house and get to know them a bit. It was clear to us that the dogs would be in very good hands and communication throughout was really good. We received timely updates with photos and it was evident the dogs were getting some good walks and Ruth and Eddie were getting to explore our local area. We did not see them on our return but the house was spotless and they had washed and hung up the bedding. This sit worked really well and we would thoroughly recommend them and invite them back.

Very good house sitters
Eddie and Ruth were very good house sitters and are certainly experienced in the art! I would have no hesitation in recommending them. We had a nice evening with them before we left and chatted through house stuff and heard about their travels and numerous house sits. Our dog Sadie was well cared for - we were sent photos of their walks - and the house was very clean and tidy on our return.

Excellent experience
Eddie and Ruth came for just over 2 weeks to look after Charlie and our house. Everything was in safe hands with them, they are very experienced sitters. We were sent regular photos and updates and Charlie loved cuddling up to Ruth in the evenings. We can highly recommend them to look after everything very well.

Eddie and Ruth have vast house-sitting experience and we were very relaxed leaving our home and pets in their care. Comms were great (we like photos!) and they coped well with our rescue dog, Ted - who does not really enjoy or trust being left with strangers - thank you for being patient with him. A lovely couple
Eddie and Ruth are a lovely couple, very easy to talk to and good with their communication before and during their sit. Our two spaniels had a lovely time while we were away! They were very happy and content, having received lots of attention and cuddles. Our home was left clean and tidy..with the bedding and towels washed as well. Eddie and Ruth sent several pictures and updates on Ted and Mabel. We would definitely recommend them as sitters and would welcome them back anytime.

Perfect
Ruth and Eddie were our first house sitters and were perfect !
