About this sitter

Hi. I'm a single, retired man. Originally from Southern Indiana, I spent two decades working professionally in the midwest. Following several vacation visits, I fell in love with the Caribbean, eventually moving to the Virgin Islands.

After 30 years of living/working in the British and U.S. Virgin Islands, I retired and have since returned to the U.S. mainland.

I normally spend winters in southwestern Arizona. I am active – walking, cycling and hiking, as well as kayaking and sailing when possible.

A non-smoker, I have also been fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19.

Why they want to house sit

I find housesitting (along with RVing – which I have been doing on and off since 2017) is an excellent way to visit and and gain a better understanding of unique, varied and special places. At the same time, it’s satisfying knowing that I can provide a valuable service to pet and home owners while pursuing my interest in travel.

Their experience

My short-term housesitting experiences began with some unique boat and ‘island’ sits, while first working in the British Virgin Islands in the 1990s.

The first opportunity for extended housesitting in the U.S. Virgin Islands, occurred shortly after retiring. Friends in St. John USVI asked me to care for their cat and home while they embarked on a year-long, bucket-list-style RV expedition. I served as their home base for mail, bills, vehicles, etc., as they crisscrossed the U.S. mainland and Alaska in 2016-17.

I have also enjoyed a number of subsequent, three-month and shorter sits for them in St. John, including one I just finished this spring (2024). State-side, I have concluded three additional extended housesits that were organized via this website. And, last year (2023) I concluded a five-month housesit in Meridian, Idaho that was organized directly with a former neighbor.

Housesits through mindmyhouse.com: In 2021, I housesat in Austin TX, and in rural Mountain View AK. Each was for five-weeks. I concluded a nearly six-week housesit in beautiful Palm Desert CA in late-summer 2022.

What can they bring to the assignment

I will provide attentive, personal care for your pet(s), while maintaining your home and property as if it were my own.

I am happy to provide regular email, text and photo/video updates of pets and property. I can also gather and forward (or scan and email) mail/packages/etc. as desired.

I'm capable of and enjoy handling plant care, basic property/home/vehicle maintenance, and yard care, etc. as required.

Being retired, I'm flexible as to travel dates, etc.
