About this sitter

• Hi my name is Jane. I am a solo sitter and a former middle and high school English, German and Critical Thinking teacher. During my 20 years of teaching, I taught in the U.S., Switzerland and Morocco.
• I owned a home in beautiful Mills River before I flew off to teach internationally again. Since the pandemic, I have been hunkered down in Asheville and am preparing to travel again in July or August 2021.
• I am currently working locally 3 nights a week, finishing the final edits of my debut poetry book, and hoping to complete a few abstract acrylic paintings before I set off for my next adventure.

Why they want to house sit

• I’m hoping to save a bit more money my last 4-6 weeks in Asheville and at the same time bring some peace of mind to you and your fur, feather, etc. family while you are away.
• Meanwhile, I’m packing things up for storage and will be ready to take good care of your home, with only my workout gear and laptop in tow.

Their experience

• My parents were animal-lovers. My father especially. He built walk-in bird coops at our 2 houses. At our house in the Bahamas, we had a Macaw, a rescued Cuban Amazon parrot (also common in the Bahamas), named Polly. We also had numerous other birds, like parakeets, doves, and pigeons. And we had a dog and about 5 cats.
• After moving to the US, as a middle school student I had the duty of feeding 2 fledgling cockatoos each day after school. As a high school and college student, I taught Polly a few phrases in Spanish, French and German. In the U.S., my father took on some new birds: conures, finches, canaries, ducks, chickens, geese and homing pigeons. Of course we still had a dog and a cat, and I had 2 ferrets, Slinky 1 and Slinky 2.
• As an adult, I travelled around the world with my cat, Socrates, as I moved to new teaching positions. I’ve helped take care of roommates’ pets, and over the years, I’ve learned to give pills to animals (and not get out-smarted by them ;). I have also comforted a dog that had seizures and stayed with it afterwards until it had returned to its senses.

What can they bring to the assignment

• My father also grew fruits and vegetables in both our yards and I also enjoy plants, taking care of them. I have experience growing my own herbs and tomatoes, as well as house plants.
