About this sitter
My husband, Jim, and I are retired educators from the Maine Community College System. Since retiring, we have been spending winters in northern Thailand. We are non-smokers and prefer a quiet environment most of the time. We both read a lot, do not watch much TV, enjoy cooking and gardening and are active online users. Gail has written a book, "The Roots of a Family - Life in Rural Maine." Jim has written many travel tales and shared with family and friends. We thrive on mini-adventures that include new friends and pets and places.
We have taken care of pets in Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, South Carolina, California, Massachusetts, Florida, and Maine as well as Costa Rica, Thailand, Ecuador, and Spain. Several were repeat assignments.
We are interested in sitting for 7 to 31 days at a time, depending on the situation and location. Would consider longer-term assignments, if in the USA. We prefer locations that have public transport options and/or use of bicycles or vehicle and do not require a rental car. We can provide contact information for references from folks whose homes and pets we have taken care of.
Why they want to house sit
Because of our current traveling lifestyle, we no longer have pets but while working, we had numerous cats and dogs and enjoyed them immensely. We also like visiting new places and making new friends. Because our son who works for an airline, we fly often and at a discount.
Their experience
Yes, we were pet sitting many years for friends and relatives and then became members of MindMyHouse for about five years and did over a dozen assignments. Due to covid, we took a break, but recently rejoined. In the past year, we completed a three week house/dog sit stint in central Florida and and a repeat visit taking care of home and cats in Henderson, Nevada.
What can they bring to the assignment
We bring the experience of taking care of many breeds and personalities of dogs and cats. We have a lovely home and second vacation home in Maine and are very accustomed to various home maintenance upkeep issues.

Jim and Gail - a lovely couple......
Jim and Gail came to look after our animals (dogs, cats and chickens) and our home in Spain at the end of September for about a week. They were incredibly friendly and we had many evenings when we were together having lots of interesting chats. They have a wonderful zest for life and are constantly trying to seek out and learn about new places. Just give Gail a nice place to sit and read or to do some work on her laptop, and Jim a bike with basic directions, and they're good to go! It was great to meet them both, and they have kindly invited us to visit them in Maine one day. I hope we get the chance to take them up on their offer. Thanks Jim and Gail.
