I'm an academic librarian, writer, and ambitious cook. Mike is a web designer, amateur astronomer, and RPG enthusiast.
Lifelong pet lovers, we miss our three cats terribly when we're away. Having an animal to care for keeps us grounded and feel connected to a new place. Especially if we combine work with travel, the routine can really help structure our time.
Other than exploring for travel we tend to be massive homebodies, so you can count on us being present in your home when you're traveling.
When we travel, we always gravitate to locations with a dog or cat (or several!) on the premises, and prefer to stay in neighborhoods and homes rather than corporate hotels or sterile AirBNBs. We like to self-cater to defer costs, and pet care comes naturally to us.
Sometimes we travel separately to places that support our hobbies/projects, to visit friends and family, or just to have some alone time. We will always let you know which of us will be sitting if this is the case.
We're combined house sitters and homeowners on this platform, meaning we absolutely understand how much trust and communication is involved in (1) letting someone stay in your home and (2) care for your animals. A lot is at stake in that relationship. We prefer to have clear expectations and communication as sitters, and that's taught us a lot about the role of owners as well.
We've been pet sitting animals as long as we've had them as a couple, so going on 25 years now! Now that we live in a rural area we have more experience caring for poultry (mainly chickens, the occasional duck or peafowl) and small livestock (goats and sheep, mostly).
We're great with cats, having owned (been owned by?) and watched many for friends, neighbors, and family over the years. Mike is basically a cat whisperer, though they usually like me as well. We are well equipped to handle special needs, be that medications, special diets, fluids, subcutaneous injections.....
We also have experience with rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, and other small rodents. Most reptiles are fine. No spiders, please.
If we're both at the sit we are happy to care for multiple pets, large dogs, puppies, or pets with special needs. If we are traveling solo it will depend on the animals and whether we feel able to give them the standard of care they require.
We said goodbye to our beloved rescue dog in December of 2021. Though we are in no way ready to get a new dog, we still have a whole lot of love to give. This is a great way for us to connect with like-minded people and care for their animals, and to transform our grief into something positive.
Mike likes making electronic music, good elevation, nature, and clear skies. Erin likes to make a great meal and go for a long walk, then to curl up on the couch with a book or film and a cuddle buddy. You will occasionally return to leftovers, but always to a well-loved and cared-for pet.
