I am respectful of and have sensibility to new situations. I adapt to local customs and am a considerate guest. It's an honour to be invited into and care for someone's home, and I am grateful for that opportunity and trust.
I commit seriously to all interactions and new situations, approaching them with respect, balance, and an open mind. I give people timely and accurate information so they can make decisions that work in their best interest.
My two careers required me to undergo high-level, robust government security vetting and stringent police checks. These entirely different careers were at pace and demanding. It's no wonder, therefore, that I've retired back to a rural location where I am able to stroll the mountains and swim in rivers and the sea. This solitude helps me to reflect on the past and project into the future.
I'm a meticulous planner but understand that "no plan survives contact with life". So, I like to think that my experience of living in cities and the countryside (along with travelling widely and working in diverse places) has taught me adaptability. I meet the unexpected with flexibility and ease and adapt plans when necessary while communicating with vested interests. An open and flexible attitude means I see growth opportunities in all situations.
I don't need many things in life. I don't want to reduce myself to a single variable, but I'm a low-tech minimalist who just requires basic stuff. I'm an imagineless and hopeless cook, preferring to eat out to immerse myself in the local culture. To be able to get to the bottom of my reading list (which grows by the day), I only sleep for around five hours a night. So, I have to prioritise that time for quality, uninterrupted sleep for concentration (and, as is advisable to all, maintain a healthy immune system). However, I will always handle emergencies no matter what time of day or night (and I wake at the drop of a pin).
Now I'm back and content in the countryside; I sometimes miss the hustle and bustle of city life. My ideal house sitting would therefore be in a city. So, I need to strike a good balance between being present for your pet and exploring. I don't go out from the early evening onwards, and some would say I lead a pretty boring life! But it's one I am entirely happy with.
I'm looking for house sits that are not too far away in the future. So, if you've had an emergency cancellation, please contact me.
If you are considering me, the best way to ensure peace of mind is by a video call. This will give us the opportunity to get to know one another, clarify each other's needs and manage expectations. During our call, I'll show official documents (passport, driving licence, etc) confirming my address with my identity.
Once we're satisfied, I'll book travel and hotel immediately. I'll arrive around 24-48 hours before you leave (depending on distance). This generous margin is to absorb any travel delays. On the day before you leave, I can visit your home so you can brief me. It gives me time to understand your home and meet your pet.
You will have peace of mind knowing I have left enough time to get to you. When I reach my hotel, you will be relaxed knowing I am close by but not in the way while you're busy preparing to leave.
As soon as we agree on the sitting, I'll book travel and a hotel and email proof of them, indicating my strong commitment to the sitting.
I miss city life, but more importantly, the only way for me to develop is by swapping familiar surroundings with new ones. I've always had a bag packed from the very first time I could stand!
House-sitting connects me to new and local communities, an experience I would not get from staying in a hotel.
My daughter can't travel overseas right now, so I create a peaceful retreat at my home for her and her family. This gives them a much-needed break from their urban lifestyle.
Retiring early means trading money for time. However, my daughter has become ill since I retired. I'm trying to help her family financially as much as I can, so house-sitting is a way to stretch my money further.
House-sitting lets me connect with animals again and maintain my appreciation for and the importance of connection with sentience. I no longer have pets.
I've done seven house sits, which have been positive and enjoyable. I cared for various animals during childhood and have also looked after various neighbours' and friends' pets when their owners have been away for weeks.

Testimonials
Warm and reliable person
Communication with Micheel is reliable, proactive and simple. We had a video call before his trip and I'm very glad that I had the opportunity to meet Michael live, when he was in Berlin. We could have talked for a long time. Michael left the flat tidy and clean and the cats looked happy. He left them all sorts of treats and also thought of them in the pre-call communication. On top of that, the gratitude of Michael's stay was palpable. Thank you!

Excellent, Respectful sitter
Michael sat our house in Germany for several weeks. His communication was excellent. He helped keep the garden maintained, everything was left clean, he even forwarded mail through email and kept in touch with us at every turn. Very conscientious, security conscious and acts with integrity. Michael also had high praise from neighbours. We would recommend Michael unreservedly.

Lovely person,
Michael spent 10 days in our apartment with our cat Loui while we were on vacation. We met him via zoom, which was uncomplicated and easy. We directly felt a good connection and comfortable with and around him. Michael is a very friendly and mindful person. He thought about things like an emergency phonenumber for the vet and stuff like that, which made us feel very confident and trustful in his ability and character to take care of our home and the cat very well. And he really did. He was very good reachable, whenever we texted him and offered to help us out in every possible occuring circumstance. He was very respectful towards our stuff and left the apartment very clean and tidied. We are very happy to have found him as a sitter and couldn't have thought of anyone better for the time period. We had a very nice holiday, knowing our home and our little furry friend were in absolutely good hands. Michael gave us peace in our minds, some real funny and lovely conversations and we are happy to have met him that way.
