Retired teacher of English Literature and History, good with both cats & dogs, looking for house sitting in Mediterranean countries, preferably in the winter months

About this sitter

I am a retired teacher of English and History, looking mainly, but not exclusively, for opportunities that would take me out of Britain during the colder months, which with climate change have become more extreme. I am fit for a retiree, enjoying walking, exploring scenery, reading, archeology and theatre. Last year, I explored five Spanish cities on foot in ten days. I am also very familiar with Italy and France and their varied cultures Another occupation is writing drama for TV and Theatre, so I would appreciate time to focus on this. I am house proud and able to cook, clean and so on. I like cats, dogs and animals in general, who seem to return my affection quickly.

Why they want to house sit

British winters are becoming more extreme with climate change, either colder or wetter, therefore miserable. There again, I love travel and exploring other countries and have seen much of the world in my time between the UK, Hong Kong and Guam in the Pacific, but can never have enough.

Their experience

I am experienced, yes. Before joining Mind my House, I looked after a home in Germany for several weeks, which came with a dog and two cats, another for a fortnight in the north of England, which came with a very old cat, and finally a home in Luxembourg, which included a spaniel. I have also rented holiday properties over the years and had no complaints from the owners, in fact the contrary.

What can they bring to the assignment

Respect for other people's property, intelligence, common sense, fitness, an affection for animals, basic French, a certain amount of Italian and an ability to get round language barriers, having taught English as a second language. In addition I have a clean driving licence and experience of driving in France, Italy and the Middle East.
