About this sitter

Hi,
I'm Evy, 35, and living near Ghent.
I'm responsible, correct, calm and respectful.
I absolutely adore animals, and I feel most myself when I’m surrounded by nature, pets, and quiet places.

In my free time I enjoy gardening, spotting wildlife, exploring, reading, being in nature and taking photographs. Animals and nature have always been a big part of my life - they calm me, inspire me and give me a sense of purpose.

In Belgium I'm a semi pro dog walker and pet sitter. I did several modules in dog behaviour therapy, worked with rescue animals and wrote texts to help rehome dogs.
Besides that, I work for a greenery organisation that removes pavement and creates more biodiversity in cities.

Why they want to house sit

Traveling and taking care of animals is the perfect combination for me.
I'm a solo traveler, so I basically need the company of animals during my journey. I'm not used anymore to traveling without any pets around me.

I don’t enjoy the typical way of traveling or tourism. Mass tourism feels like an assault on nature and the environment. When I travel for a longer period, I always try to give something back - by doing volunteer work or, in this case, by house and pet sitting.

I simply love being in new places, surrounded by animals and nature, and feeling inspired again.

If I can choose, I prefer sits in natural environments: mountains, forests, the countryside, or off-grid places. That’s where I feel most at home, since I don’t like cities.

I think you can be sure that I’ll make a great sitter: I’m respectful, calm, tidy, and your animals are always my top priority (not visiting tourist hotspots every day).
I also appreciate clear and friendly communication. I work best with genuine, considerate people who value mutual respect and a down-to-earth connection.

Their experience

I'm a petsitter now for almost 13 years. I started petsitting when I was 19 year, when I moved to the city of Ghent.

In my early twenties, I developed a strong interest in dog behavior and completed modules in canine behavior therapy. This helped me better understand and respond to dogs’ body language.

I think by now i have +- 6 regular 'doggy clients" and all of them are very precious to me. I treat them like they are my own dogs.
I mainly walk dogs or care for cats over longer periods. Sometimes I also stay in the owners’ home, as I believe it’s always best to keep pets in their familiar environment to reduce stress as much as possible.

I also did volunteer work in a shelter for stray dogs and cats in Curacao and in Belgium I occasionally help out for an organization that rehomes dogs (I write the texts and take the pictures)

Besides taking care of pets, I also have experience with taking care of farm animals. In Austria for example we took care of 2 majestic Haflinger horses. we took them back and forth from the stable to the paddock, we fed them and cleaned the stables. Really a great experience!

What can they bring to the assignment

I bring experience, reliability and a calm presence. I’m attentive to animals’ routines and behaviour, and I take responsibility seriously. I spend a lot of time at home during a sit and care for both the animals and the house as if they were my own.

I also enjoy making natural photos of the animals, and I’m happy to share regular updates and photos during the sit if that’s appreciated.
