Quiet, tidy, responsible, non-smoking catlover

About this sitter

My name is Roosmarijn (41) and I'm a former classics teacher from a town in The Netherlands. In 2012 I suffered a brain injury in a traffic accident which sadly led me to early retirement. Now I teach Dutch as a second language on a voluntary basis and tutor high school students in Latin and Greek. I spend a lot of time at home in company of my two cats and chickens and enjoy gardening, knitting and sewing, reading, yoga and being outside going for a walk or riding my bike. I love travelling and have found that housesitting is my favourite way to do so: spending longer periods of time in the same place with all the comforts of a home, experiencing the local life and enjoying the company of pets! I enjoy nature and prefer house sits in the countryside. A nice view is a definite bonus!

Why they want to house sit

I love housesitting, because I enjoy experiencing the local life. I like spending longer periods of time in the same place to really get a feel for the place. Because I need my rest I only leave the house for 4 hours a day max and I love to spend the remaining time relaxing in a home rather than a hotel, cooking my own meals and taking care of and enjoying the company of pets. Life is just better with pets around!

Their experience

I have been house- and petsitting for friends and relatives for as long as I can remember. In 2017 I started housesitting using online platforms. First on MindMyHouse but then I moved to another platform Trusted Housesitters. I have two cats myself and am a real catperson, stopping to pet every cat I meet on the street. In 2022 I also added a couple of chickens to my household and they bring me great joy. I have always had cats and come from a family of animal lovers. Growing up we used to have rabbits, cats and dogs. My parents bred dogs for a couple of years and I helped out at the birth of quite a few pups and generally took care of both pups and the adult dogs. My house is full of houseplants (I think I have about 30) and I have a large garden with fruit trees, a green house and vegetable beds, so I'm no stranger to gardening either.

What can they bring to the assignment

Apart from ample experience with my own pets and 10+ international housesits, I am the perfect sitter because I spend quite some time at home. Because of low energy levels I don't leave the house for more than 3 or 4 hours a day, leaving plenty of time and attention for your pets. I am bothered by noise, so there definetely won't be any from me. And because I like things in a fixed place, you will find your place exactly as you left it. And I like things clean and tidy! Above all, I love pets and you can rest assured they will be well taken care of in your absence.
