About this sitter
I am now retired and live out my hobbies: travel, writing, photography and art. Collecting stories, photos, encounters with new people and cultures while house sitting is a good way to travel in different parts of the world. At the same time I can be around pets.
I am a mature yet young at heart person. Active, level headed and positive with many interests and hobbies. I have always been around pets and also farm animals.
I am soft spoken and gentle.
Why they want to house sit
It is a lifestyle choice. I can live out my passion for travel and pets while providing a valuable service. House sitting enables me to travel slowly getting to know a destination's culture and traditions when I immerse myself in the local community. I like the adventure of it, the unexpected. At the same time I find it gratifying to be the custodian of your home and pets while you can travel free of worries. I am a home owner myself and have been for many years and would treat your home with the same care and dedication as I do mine. Environmentally conscious behaviour is key in my home as well as in yours.
For a number of years I have been the host to several pet sitters in my home who looked after my cats. Unfortunately, within one year they both went to cat heaven. They are dearly missed.
Timewise I am flexible. I am interested mainly in European Countries and Germany but open to any other interesting offers.

It was a pleasure to have Elke look after Sasha and Hans-Otto. Due to a flight reschedule, we had to leave before Elke arrived. Obviously not ideal but Elke managed it all and Sasha was on Elke‘s lap within the hour. We had limited WIFI travelling in the Scottish Highlands, so our ability to be contacted was a bit hit and miss. Unfortunately Sasha became ill a few days in the sit, but Elke took control and sorted it all out. We are thankful. our home was tidy and clean in our return and the cats really happy. Communication with Elke was an absolute breeze
Communication with Elke was an absolute breeze – she’s not only reliable but also such a lovely person to chat with. During our time away, we were so happy to receive regular updates about our cats, Kudu and Zulu, which gave us real peace of mind. It was clear from the start that they were in the best hands. Elke went above and beyond by watering the garden plants and leaving the house spotless. Simply the best or a god called Elke!
First, a quick handover. Then tea. Then very delicious marzipan Hörnchen (yes, the kind that make you question all your life choices until now). That’s just the welcome package with Elke. While you’re away: The animals are calmer than you remember, and even the shy cats are suddenly socialites. Chickens? Living their best lives. Plants? Thriving like they’re in a spa. Honestly, if God can be a DJ (a song from a band called Faithless) he might also take the form of a housekeeper named Elke. 10/10, would leave my home in her heavenly hands again. Please come back many more times!

Very organized and flexible
Elke was before the sit very organized and flexible. While the sit Elke took amazing care of my two cats. After reading many reviews, we reached out to Elke to see if she would be available for a sit for our cat Heidi who is 16 years old. Elke’s reviews were excellent, and we can see why. Our communication with Elke was a pleasure. She responded promptly both before and during the sit keeping us informed with daily updates and pictures on how Heidi was doing during our vacation. We returned after a week to a spotless apartment, our balcony plants in great condition, and a happy and well-taken care of kitty. We will definitely think of Elke in our future travel plans when we need someone to watch over Heidi.

Everything we had hoped for
This was our first experience with a sitter and Elke was everything we had hoped for! She is an interesting person, well traveled and with a lot of house sitting experience. Elke was the perfect sitter. From our first contact, we felt we had made the right decision, and we were proved correct. On our return we encountered a very content cat and a very clean house. Elke was the perfect house sitter
Elke was the perfect house sitter! It was our first house-sitting experience with a person we didn't know previously and it couldn't have gone better. From the very first phone call, we realized that Elke is truly a "pro" - she asked all the right questions and immediately gave us a sense of familiarity. When she arrived, she immediately formed a bond with our cat Samson. You can tell that she is super experienced with cats! There is no doubt in my mind that they got along perfectly (also proven by various pictures of her and Samson sitting side by side watching TV 😊). Communication via WhatsApp was easy, both before her arrival and during our vacation. She sent us a daily update and photos of Samson, so that we always felt he was well taken care of. Because our flight was moved to an earlier time of day, we had spontaneously asked her to arrive a day earlier, and she was super flexible. She even brought us delicious sweets for the flight! When we returned from vacation we found the house very clean and tidy with a little parting gift. I found Elke to be a very reliable, organized, friendly person. Reliable, organised, kind and tidy
Elke was really the perfect housesitter: reliable, organised, kind and tidy. She took care of our apartment and cat Takkie during the Christmas week. Communication was smooth from the start and she sent me frequent updates during her stay of how Takkie was doing, including cute pics :). She also left the flat cleaner than we left it! Maybe most importantly she was great with our very shy cat. It normally takes him a couple of days to come around to strangers, but with Elke he seemed comfortable from day 1. Elke is a wonderful human being
Elke has now taken care of our three cats for a third time. Only one of our cats is cuddly and he really adores Elke. One is very shy and gets stressed, but Elke can win him around, then he doesn't need to live under the bed while we are away. You can go away and rest assured that your cats are in very safe hands. The house is clean and tidy and she also took care of our garden. Trustworthy, reliable, gentle, calm and very caring. She also takes great photos and keeps you well informed. Elke is such a delightful person
Elke is such a delightful person! I know the cats were in very competent and caring hands, which is the best feeling when you're far from home. Elke and I chatted throughout her stay, communication was very clear, the house was super clean when we got back, and most importantly, the cats clearly didn't miss us at all. After Elke arrived to our flat, I learned that she had a foot injury but had chosen not to cancel her trip because she feared that it would be an inconvenience to us. She truly went above and beyond anything I would have expected or asked of someone. I was very happy to have her at our home. Anyone should count themselves lucky to have her stay with your pets.

Elke looked after Amy and Mia for three weeks and she did a wonderful job. There were some unforeseen issues with the cats which she handled promtly and without fuss for which I am very grateful. My older cat Mia had not been eating well for a while and Elke tried another diet which Mia accepted and ate more. Both cats were happy and looked well upon my return. Why seek far afield...
In german there is a saying: "Why seek far afield when the good is close by?" Our housesitter Elke lives really close, which made everything especially easy. In our case, we had no time to meet prior us being away. Elke did not mind. She is well experienced and really easy with everything. During our absence she kept us well posted which made us feel very confident. Upon our return our house was perfectly clean. We could feel that our cats didn't mind us being away. The chickens were also happy and the coop clean! What we really enjoyed the most that Elke seemed to have a good time here as well. That makes the idea of the housesitting even better! At the end we were treated with the best homemade cookies! Yummy!! Elke, please come back often ???? Thank you very much for everything!!!

Would be delighted to have her care for our cats again
Elke sat for our three cats, who were very well loved and cared for. Great with a camera, we received regular updates, including photos. We returned to a clean and tidy house, with healthy happy cats. Our cats all have different characters, which can be a juggling act at times, plus one is extremely scared and shy. Elke is calm and quiet, so our shy one was at ease quickly. If you get the chance to have her sit for you, jump at the opportunity! Would be delighted to have her care for our cats again, and highly recommend her.

I can highly recommend her
I recently had Elke to housesit for the second time for my two cats and flat in Berlin. She is organised and reliable, and a lovely person. We had great communication and she was happy to feed my older cats separately as they have different medical diets. Elke checked in very often, nearly every day, and she takes really amazing photos which I always enjoyed receiving. She also went the extra mile and stayed home so a courier could pick up a parcel which they'd failed to pick up before I left, so I really appreciated that. The flat was clean and tidy when I returned and I can highly recommend her.

We were very happy that Elke was able to look after Mimi again as it worked out well the first time she was here. Communication was easy before and during our absence. The house keys had to be passed on through third parties, but that was not a problem for Elke nor for us. Mimi was very well cared for and we found her relaxed, well groomed and happy upon our return. We especially appreciate Elke playing with Mimi und spending deliberate time with her. We could easily tell on our return that Mimi had had a good time. Elke's interaction with neighbors was friendly and respectful. She has a quiet and pleasant demeanor. Wonderful and reliable house sitter
Elke dissipated all my anxieties as this was the first time I had a cat sitter through a website. She is a very responsible and reliable person, friendly and has a great sense of humor. My young Maine Coon was content and well locked after, my home was tidy and very clean, the garden and indoor plants had been watered. An ideal cat-sitter
Elke looked after my cat Sidney whilst I was away in August 2018. As soon as I chatted to Elke on Skype, I knew she would be an ideal cat-sitter - she clearly adores cats! Whilst I was away, Elke communicated with me every day, sending me photos of a very contented Sidney; he was clearly being very well cared for. When I got home, Sidney was very happy and relaxed and the house was exceptionally clean and tidy. Elke had taken very good care of my house in my absence; she kept it well-secured and was friendly and respectful to my neighbours. A gem
Elke is really a gem, and a great animal lover. Our cats felt relaxed and comfortable with her and we were very fortunate to have Elke looking after our babies and our home for 3,5 weeks while we were busy with a very stressful project. As we are also house sitters we had met Elke a few years earlier when we looked after her older lovely cat Mousy, which meanwhile has sadly passed away, and we stayed in touch with her ever since. Elke is absolutely trustworthy, reliable, attentive, gentle and kind. She sent us updates and photos which were reassuring and entertaining. Our home was well looked after and spotless upon our return. Elke is an interesting and warmhearted person and we enjoyed spending some time with her before and after the sit.

Elke is a kind, warm, and caring individual
This was, without a doubt, a perfect scenario. Elke is a kind, warm, and caring individual. Lars and I are experienced housesitters and home exchangers ourselves, and this is how we met Elke a few years ago. After that we kept in touch, so it was logical for us to ask her to help us out while we were in a stressful situation; moving to and starting to renovate our new house. Therefore we were very grateful that she agreed to come and could stay almost four weeks. It was so reassuring to have Elke with her calm and gentle demeanor look after our fur babies and our home. We were completely at ease and knew that we could fully concentrate on our house project and had nothing to worry about. Elke is a great photographer and we enjoyed receiving messages with cute photos of the kitties. We arrived home to healthy, well cared-for cats, and a spotless home. I can't say enough about Elke's demeanor … she is a funny, interesting and lovely person.

Organised, punctual, whom I can only recommend most highly
Elke was a really fantastic housesitter! We had easy communication before and during the sit (she takes really great-quality photos of the cats which I enjoyed receiving every day), and the cats were clearly relaxed, happy and medically well looked after on my return, despite both cats needing separate medication and lengthy separate feeding times. One cat even needs a syringe of foul-tasting medicine every day and Elke managed it with no complaints! On my return the flat was cleaner than when I had left it (she even cleaned the kitchen cabinets and the balcony!). Due to an unfortunate failure of the postal system she even endured two separate trips to the post office to pick up some new medicinal food for one cat, which I obviously wished I could have spared her but she carried out with extremely good grace. Elke is a friendly and easy-going but also organised and punctual housesitter, whom I can only recommend most highly!!

Very pleasing
Very pleasing was the immediate and uncomplicated contact we got to Elke as soon as she applied for a cat sit with Mimi. Few words were necessary to achieve mutual agreement. She was flexible enough to come early and meet us before we left, which was reassuring. Elke proved to be a reliable, warm and independent person with whom Mimi felt comfortable as we could see on returning. According to our wishes, Elke kept us informed that all was well and we were relieved to know she was there. We have already agreed on another cat- and house-sit and certainly recommend her for any house- and pet-sitting situation.

The best cat sitter I have ever had
Elke is not only the best cat sitter I have ever had, also she is a very warm, pleasant, lovely, intelligent and interesting person. She sat for me in 2017 and I am so lucky that she could come again this time! She is well organized, attentive to details, demonstrates that she is truly experienced with house and pet sitting. She loves animals and really cares! When I came back home, I found it all clean and shiny. My cats again were visibly relaxed and obviously enjoyed the company.
