About this sitter
I am now retired and live out my hobbies: travel, writing, photography and art. Collecting stories, photos, encounters with new people and cultures while house sitting is a good way to travel in different parts of the world. At the same time I can be around pets.
I am a mature yet young at heart person. Active, level headed and positive with many interests and hobbies. I have always been around pets and also farm animals.
I am soft spoken and gentle.
Why they want to house sit
It is a lifestyle choice. I can live out my passion for travel and pets while providing a valuable service. House sitting enables me to travel slowly getting to know a destination's culture and traditions when I immerse myself in the local community. I like the adventure of it, the unexpected. At the same time I find it gratifying to be the custodian of your home and pets while you can travel free of worries. I am a home owner myself and have been for many years and would treat your home with the same care and dedication as I do mine. Environmentally conscious behaviour is key in my home as well as in yours.
For a number of years I have been the host to several pet sitters in my home who looked after my cats. Unfortunately, within one year they both went to cat heaven. They are dearly missed.
Timewise I am flexible. I am interested mainly in European Countries and Germany but open to any other interesting offers.

I truly understand the need of getting things done and the requirements for commitment to detail. So happy that Elke and I had the opportunity to meet each other last summer, able to meet the boys and get familiar without any rush. Elke arrived after I had to leave the house. But due the earlier visit and the welcome video I made, everything worked out. I was spending my winter vacation in Asia and lots of times I woke up or went to bed with lovely pictures from Moyles and Liam. This really gave me a good feeling and knowing the boys are happy and content. Not a single time I was worried, knowing Elke was taking good care. Despite the time difference, I believe every question the Elke had, was answered and solved in a timely manner. Elke is lovely and a kind person. I highly recommend to exept her application. She well organised and understands the pets needs. My holiday was even more relaxed because of this.

It was an absolute pleasure having Elke look after Soja and Côdea. We were able to meet her the day before we left to hand over the keys and introduce her to the kitties, which immediately put us at ease. Communication with Elke was excellent. She proved to be reliable, and throughout our time away we loved receiving her regular updates and photos of our cats. We also had an unexpected issue with our automatic feeder, but Elke handled it wonderfully. She kept us informed as we tried to troubleshoot at a distance, and made sure the cats were fed while the machine was down. When we returned, our home was tidy, clean, and the cats were clearly relaxed. We would be delighted to welcome Elke back anytime. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a trustworthy and caring sitter!

It was a pleasure to have Elke look after Sasha and Hans-Otto. Due to a flight reschedule, we had to leave before Elke arrived. Obviously not ideal but Elke managed it all and Sasha was on Elke‘s lap within the hour. We had limited WIFI travelling in the Scottish Highlands, so our ability to be contacted was a bit hit and miss. Unfortunately Sasha became ill a few days in the sit, but Elke took control and sorted it all out. We are thankful. our home was tidy and clean in our return and the cats really happy. Simply the best or a god called Elke!
First, a quick handover. Then tea. Then very delicious marzipan Hörnchen (yes, the kind that make you question all your life choices until now). That’s just the welcome package with Elke. While you’re away: The animals are calmer than you remember, and even the shy cats are suddenly socialites. Chickens? Living their best lives. Plants? Thriving like they’re in a spa. Honestly, if God can be a DJ (a song from a band called Faithless) he might also take the form of a housekeeper named Elke. 10/10, would leave my home in her heavenly hands again. Please come back many more times!

After reading many reviews, we reached out to Elke to see if she would be available for a sit for our cat Heidi who is 16 years old. Elke’s reviews were excellent, and we can see why. Our communication with Elke was a pleasure. She responded promptly both before and during the sit keeping us informed with daily updates and pictures on how Heidi was doing during our vacation. We returned after a week to a spotless apartment, our balcony plants in great condition, and a happy and well-taken care of kitty. Elke was everything we had hoped for! She is an interesting person, well traveled and with a lot of house sitting experience. She is obviously comfortable around cats. Elke was the perfect house sitter
Elke was the perfect house sitter! It was our first house-sitting experience with a person we didn't know previously and it couldn't have gone better. From the very first phone call, we realized that Elke is truly a "pro" - she asked all the right questions and immediately gave us a sense of familiarity. When she arrived, she immediately formed a bond with our cat Samson. You can tell that she is super experienced with cats! There is no doubt in my mind that they got along perfectly (also proven by various pictures of her and Samson sitting side by side watching TV 😊). Communication via WhatsApp was easy, both before her arrival and during our vacation. She sent us a daily update and photos of Samson, so that we always felt he was well taken care of. Because our flight was moved to an earlier time of day, we had spontaneously asked her to arrive a day earlier, and she was super flexible. She even brought us delicious sweets for the flight! When we returned from vacation we found the house very clean and tidy with a little parting gift. I found Elke to be a very reliable, organized, friendly person. Elke was really the perfect housesitter: reliable, organised, kind and tidy. She took care of our apartment and cat Takkie during the Christmas week. Communication was smooth from the start and she sent me frequent updates during her stay of how Takkie was doing, including cute pics :). She also left the flat cleaner than we left it! Elke has now taken care of our three cats for a third time. Only one of our cats is cuddly and he really adores Elke. One is very shy and gets stressed, but Elke can win him around, then he doesn't need to live under the bed while we are away. You can go away and rest assured that your cats are in very safe hands. The house is clean and tidy and she also took care of our garden. Trustworthy, reliable, gentle, calm and very caring. She also takes great photos and keeps you well informed. Elke is such a delightful person
Elke is such a delightful person! I know the cats were in very competent and caring hands, which is the best feeling when you're far from home. Elke and I chatted throughout her stay, communication was very clear, the house was super clean when we got back, and most importantly, the cats clearly didn't miss us at all. After Elke arrived to our flat, I learned that she had a foot injury but had chosen not to cancel her trip because she feared that it would be an inconvenience to us. She truly went above and beyond anything I would have expected or asked of someone. I was very happy to have her at our home. Anyone should count themselves lucky to have her stay with your pets.

Elke looked after Amy and Mia for three weeks and she did a wonderful job. There were some unforeseen issues with the cats which she handled promtly and without fuss for which I am very grateful. My older cat Mia had not been eating well for a while and Elke tried another diet which Mia accepted and ate more. Both cats were happy and looked well upon my return. My apartment was clean and everything was better than expected. Elke was quiet and respectful with the neighbors. Thank you Elke for everything. I hope that you can come again!
