Everything Entrusted to them

This is with words of love and deep recognition, When I have to leave my home, my farm, and my beloved animals—which happens regularly—I rely on kind-hearted people to take care of everything with love and dedication. Fortunately, I have always been lucky in this regard, and I stay in touch with almost all my former house sitters. Over the years, I have found it incredibly beneficial to take time to connect with a new caregiver once the chaos of packing and leaving has settled. This requires patience and empathy from both of us. For my two adored cats, I cannot allow a hasty transition. A minimum of three days for them to adjust has become essential, as long as the house sitter can accommodate it. However, meeting Catherine and her partner, Brendon, truly surpassed all my expectations. Where do I even begin? Catherine arrived with her partner Brendon in Switzerland coming from Luxembourg three days before my departure. I felt an instant connection when I picked them up from the train station, and the warmth I had sensed during our initial online conversation weeks earlier was immediately reaffirmed. They are genuinely kind, open-minded, and compassionate people, always willing to listen, engage, and ask questions if something is unclear. Catherine took exceptional care of everything, and our communication, both during my absence and afterward, was excellent. They always offered a helpful hand and an open heart, accomplishing every task with a warm smile. Catherine, with her natural charm, is sociable yet adept at managing solitude. “Isolation” might not be the right term for someone who embraces quiet moments for self-reflection and personal challenge as Brendon does. Given that our house is situated at the forest's edge, far from immediate neighbours, it was reassuring to see how well she and Brendon handled the serene environment. They regularly shared updates about the weather, the cats, the house and garden, and the plants, both at home and at our travel destination. This spirit of sharing is one of the many things we have in common and highly appreciate, not to mention their immediate response time, which always provided a great sense of security. Built on trust and a growing friendship, it felt as though we had a “new family” at home. In all my years of travel, I have never returned to a house as tidy, clean, and well-kept as when Catherine and Brendon were in charge—both of my home and my beloved furry companions. While one hopes to leave a clean home and find it the same upon return, I know it is not a given, making their meticulous attention to detail all the more refreshing. They diligently cared for the plants and lemon trees overwintering in the house and even managed our Airbnb guests, receiving outstanding reviews! I wish to emphasize this, as it was no small task. During my trip, they frequently updated me via WhatsApp and, at my request, even opened my mail when I suspected an important bill had arrived. We were fortunate to spend two wonderful days together after my return, a time I will cherish deeply. The conversations we began during my absence continue to enrich our friendship today. What truly stands out is their remarkable ability to care for animals—in particular, my cats, Mosquito and Findusina. They gave them exceptional attention and love, and the cats reciprocated with full affection! In no time, these two cuddly companions became inseparable from them. The pictures Catherine sent of Mosquito and Findusina nestled against her by the warm fire speak volumes. I have saved all these images in a special folder; they are treasured memories. Catherine is a “five-star” angel, and Brendon the column who lifts his angel up and cares for her. No ordinary recommendation is necessary. We grow through our experiences and challenges; the most beautiful souls we encounter in life are often those who have emerged from the fire. That fire shapes the heart’s education—imparting tone, wisdom, and the love needed to navigate life, move forward, and become whole. There is no doubt that Catherine and Brendon will lovingly care for everything entrusted to them. I genuinely wish them all the best as they journey forward toward the people who will appreciate their presence and share in their light.
