About this sitter

Charlotte: I’m in my thirties, I am a freelance engineer/writer. I grew up surrounded by cats and have been in awe of them since childhood—their presence just releases dopamine in my brain. I also love dogs. I am committed to fighting for animal rights.

Jean: I’m in my sixties and I retired one year ago! I started my career at the Faculty of Arts as a librarian and then worked for Besançon Court of Justice for twenty-one years. I’ve lived with cats and dogs since childhood. When I was thirty, I renovated an old farmhouse where my family and I lived for about twenty years, welcoming two goats, several cats and dogs (Bernese mountain dog, Beauceron, Brittany spaniel, Bichon, German shepherd), most of which were rescues. I have 20 years of experience in gardening and woodcutting.

Why they want to house sit

Since Jean retired, we’ve been splitting our time between France, Spain, Portugal, and Ireland. We travel with our car and enjoy alternating camping trips with quieter, sedentary periods during which we rent gites and do pet sitting. We both love animals, especially cats and dogs: when we finish traveling and settle somewhere they will be part of the project. For now, we enjoy the company of the pets we sit! The wish to keep pets in our life during our years of intensive travelling is what made us take the leap, at first, and join this platform.

Their experience

We’ve been registered on petsitting platforms for more than a year now! In 2025, we completed 15 sits on 3 different platforms, with up to 5 pets at once and durations varying from a few days to several months.
What we got out of it besides great memories is more knowledge about animal care. We minded sneaky kittens, hyper puppies, old slow-paced dogs and cats, Maine Coons, Norvegian Forest cats, semi-feral cats, ever-enthusastic goldies, ball-and-stick-obsessed colleys… amongst all these fellows some carried trauma and some had a delicate health. We dealt with a wide range of conditions: acne, cat flu, ear infections, paw injury, epileptic seizures, thyroid issues… From all this we can say that we are comfortable providing any kind of treatment, except shots.
We also learned to manage large numbers of hens (up to 35), and kept our goldfish care skills up to date (:

What can they bring to the assignment

Calm by nature, we like playing chess, reading, and writing. We also enjoy playing with and cuddling animals, but we don’t force things and respect their space—we let them come to us instead of the other way around.
We respect the homes that are entrusted to us just as if they were ours, returning them in the same state we found them in.
We are covered by European liability insurance.
We are also both non smoking and non drinking.
