About this sitter

We are looking to spend some time in Spain or Portugal over the winter, after having lived in Munich, Germany (Sophi's home), for the past 5 years. Before that we spent 10 years in Galway, Ireland (Kevin's home).

We are both very easy going, sporty people, love the outdoors, Kevin lives for golf while Sophi enjoys spending her spare time hiking with Emma, our little 4 year old dog.

Kevin works for a golf company based in Munich and will continue this on a freelance basis, Sophi currently works for the University of Munich as a Postdoctoral researcher and lecturer in Psychology and Special Needs Teaching.

While away she will be teaching a few hours for an online university, tend to the house and the pet(s) and focus on improving her (very patchy) Spanish.

Our dog Emma is a four year old mixed breed which we adopted at one year of age. She is social and mixes well with other dogs, ideally same size or bigger dogs.

Why they want to house sit

When we came across "Mind My House" we felt like somebody read our mind! What a wonderful idea to take care of somebodys place, mind it like our own, maybe temporarily add a for-legged friend to our pack while giving the owners the chance and freedom to enjoy a holiday of their own!

We love owning a dog, we adopted Emma 3 years ago and could't imagine our life without her. At the same time we know what an effect owning a pet has on the freedom of travelling. Mind My Home and house sitting in general is a win-win situation, it gives home owners the chance to "get away" for a little, while giving house sitters the chance to explore new places, live in foreign countries off the tourist path, the "beaten track", experience countries away from home in the most homely manner.

We are planning on spending the winter months in the south of Spain or Portugal, so we will be in the area, travelling by car from Germany, and would love to sprouce up our stay with the experience of a house sit.

Their experience

We have travelled a lot in our twenties, but have noticed we prefer "slow travelling" at this stage, staying at places for a while to really get to know the area while also having the chance to work. We have done this before (outside of this website) in a remote home in rural Ireland and in Sardinia, Italy for a month at a time. Both these experiences were great and we would love to add more to the list :-)

What can they bring to the assignment

We have lived in rented accommodation for over 15 years now and know what it means to be looking after somebody else's place.

Respectful behaviour towards the property and neighbours are a given. We are social people but value our home as a place of peace and quiet. We are not "Bob the Builder" but would consider ourselves handy with general tasks, and are happy to take on new tasks and learn new skills if beneficial or required.

We have lived abroad a lot over the years (Japan, Vietnam, New Zealand) and are very adaptable to new environments and requirements!
