About this sitter

We are a responsible, animal-loving couple originally from South Africa and relocated to the Netherlands 10 years ago. Each year between mid-November and April, we dedicate time to house-sitting — especially on farms or in rural settings — where we care for both animals and property as if they were our own.

Why they want to house sit

We choose to house sit because it allows us to experience a slower, more meaningful way of life — one rooted in connection, responsibility, and care. We both grew up surrounded by animals and have always felt most at home in quiet, rural spaces. House sitting gives us the opportunity to live intentionally, help others feel secure while they’re away, and care for animals and land in a way that feels purposeful. It’s also a beautiful way for us to explore different parts of the world without the rush of tourism — to settle in, contribute, and form genuine connections with the homes and families we assist. Each house sit becomes part of our story, and we treat every property and pet as if they were our own.

Their experience

For the last several years, we’ve returned again and again to the same family’s farm in Spain — building a trusted relationship that spanned four separate stays (9 months, 6 months, 4 months, and most recently, 5 months). During this time, we:
• Looked after three beloved dogs and rescued a stray kitten
• Coordinated with local farmers and harvested seasonal fruit
• Managed daily upkeep of the pool and property
• Took care of general repairs, including liaising with local electricians and plumbers
• Handled tasks like firewood chopping and tree maintenance when needed

We’ve also completed house sits in the Netherlands and Austria, adapting easily to different homes, climates, and pet personalities.

We have extensive experience with both dogs and cats of all ages and temperaments. Between us, we’ve raised and rescued numerous pets — from rehabilitating kittens to caring for large breeds like pit bulls. We’ve also helped look after horses and tortoises with guidance from homeowners, and are always attentive to special care instructions.

What can they bring to the assignment

We run an online business that allows us to live and work from anywhere. This means we’re home often, keeping a consistent routine for your animals and remaining available for any house needs that arise.

We’re young, strong, and happy to assist with practical tasks around your property:
• Pool care and maintenance
• Firewood chopping and tree clearing
• Coordinating with local tradespeople for repairs
• Light gardening or harvest work

We speak English, Afrikaans, Dutch, a bit of German, and are actively improving our Spanish. While we feel particularly at home in Spain, we are open to house sits in any country and love immersing ourselves in new cultures.

We’re ideally looking for longer-term sits so we can settle in and offer consistent, worry-free care.
