Caring and peaceful house sitters

About this sitter

We are Justine and Sarah, a couple from the UK who have been travelling on and off for five years. We thrive in nature and around animals and we love hiking, cycling, diving, yoga, meditation, discovering new remote and peaceful environments, and sitting and watching the world do its thing. We both speak intermediate Spanish and are keen to improve!

We haven’t yet house/pet sat through Mindmyhouse but we have 15 5* reviews on THS that have been saved as references for you to view, so you can see what previous owners have liked about us and how we've taken care of their animals while they've been away.

Recently, we've slowed down the travel somewhat while Sarah trains to be a counsellor and works online. We've house-sat full-time using Trusted House Sitters since May 2024 and supported animal projects across Latin America and Europe. House-sitting has allowed us to visit some incredible places and meet some amazing people and animals, and we love every second of it! Because of Sarah's training and work, we are now looking for longer term assignments in Europe, with or without pets.

We are both DBS-checked, non-smokers and fully insured to care for your animals.

Why they want to house sit

We house sit because we love animals and visiting new places. It's a lifestyle we've chosen and we appreciate every moment of it and the opportunities life's given us from living this way ? We've found recently that we are in need of a slower pace, and long-term house sitting, in Europe, is a much better choice for us than settling in one place!

Their experience

We've been house/pet sitting full-time since May 2024, so have lots of experience of pet and home care. Before this we have had our own pets as children and have taken care of friends and family's pets, and have also house sat while travelling in Spain, Portugal and Costa Rica! Our experience covers:

- Feeding pets, including those with special diets
- Large dog experience and those who need a lot of exercise
- Elderly cat/dog experience and puppies/kittens
- Walking dogs
- Giving regular medication to pets (this can require lots of creativity at times and we love the challenge!)
- Training practice and taking puppies to training classes
- Keeping the house clean, tidy and safe. We've both been housekeepers in a hotel so have high standards in cleanliness and presentation.
- We know how important it is to come home from holiday to a clean, secure and comfortable space.
- Watering plants and garden
- Sending frequent updates and photos to pet parents
- Light gardening (strimming, vegetable care, weeding etc)
- Light DIY (sanding, varnishing, minor repairs, painting)
- Respect for off-grid lifestyle
- Small reptile care
- Daily farm/small holding care (incl. chickens and alpacas)

What can they bring to the assignment

Expertise (many years experience, including 1+ years full-time pet sitting), enthusiasm for visiting new places and getting to know new pets, respect for others' homes, willingness and reliability to follow routines, a keen eye for noticing anything that needs attending to and strong communication skills, providing regular updates if required, willingness to increase skill-set through learning.
