About this sitter

Hi, we are Don and Christine from Auckland, New Zealand. We are newly retired with an active lifestyle, excited about the freedom and opportunities this new chapter brings. We have travelled extensively internationally, which has given us a love of exploring new places and communities, while appreciating the comforts of a well-cared-for home.
Don retired from his role as Building Manager of a residential apartment and commercial building in central Auckland after five years, a position requiring a high level of responsibility and attention to detail. He also has an extensive security background, including running his own business, and 25 years of service in the New Zealand Armed Forces. Christine’s professional background spans 40 years in administration, giving her strong organisational and management skills.
We are looking forward to house-sitting because it allows us to experience different homes and communities while providing peace of mind to homeowners. We take pride in caring for a home as if it were our own and value the trust that comes with looking after someone’s property and, where applicable, their pets. We enjoy the sense of mutual benefit—homeowners can relax knowing their home is well cared for, while we settle in and contribute by keeping everything running smoothly.
We are non-smokers and committed to treating every home with respect, maintaining a tidy, secure, and well-managed environment. If pets are part of the sit, we are happy to care for them, ensuring they are comfortable, happy, and able to follow their usual routines.
As an active couple, we enjoy the outdoors, exploring our surroundings, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, while also valuing a calm and welcoming home base. We see house-sitting as a relationship built on trust, communication, and care, and we look forward to providing homeowners with complete peace of mind while they are away.

Why they want to house sit

For us, house-sitting is about adventure with purpose: travelling slowly, settling into local communities, and embracing new environments in a way that feels authentic and enriching. Now that we have more flexibility in our lives, we’re drawn to opportunities where we can care for homes and/or pets with the same attention and respect we give our own surroundings. House-sitting gives us the chance to contribute to others’ peace of mind while enjoying the comforts of a settled home. We’re reliable, tidy, and take pride in looking after both homes and animals with genuine care.

Their experience

While we haven’t formally house-sat before, we have extensive experience caring for friends’ homes, always treating them with care and respect. During our 15 years living in Brisbane, we rented a home with a garden and pool, which we maintained to such a high standard that many assumed we owned it. We are conscientious, reliable, and take pride in keeping a home secure, tidy, and well looked after. If pets are part of the household, we are happy to ensure they are comfortable and well cared for.

What can they bring to the assignment

When minding a home, we would provide reliability, attentiveness, and respect. We would treat the property as if it were our own, ensuring it is secure, clean, and well cared for.
We would look after the home to ensure it runs smoothly, caring for gardens, pools, and general upkeep, and keeping all household systems in good order. If pets are part of the home, we provide gentle, consistent care to keep them happy and comfortable.
Above all, we bring peace of mind to homeowners—they can relax knowing their home is in capable, conscientious hands. We value trust and open communication, ensuring a positive experience for both homeowners and ourselves.
