About this sitter

We’re a professional couple who recently entered retirement. We’ve been married for 35 years. We lived the first part of our married life in South Africa and the last 24 years in England. We have 4 grown up children. We’ve always enjoyed travelling, exploring new countries and cultures.
Lynda had a career working in childminding and then domiciliary care and is a trusted member of the community she works in. She maintains a current and updated DBS (police certificate). Stewart has had a long career as a Mechanical Engineer in Aircraft, Mining and Rail industries (No current DBS).
We retired in October 2024, and have been living our dream of slow travelling, mostly in South Africa and UK, and housesitting when possible. We plan to tour through Europe in Summer 2026, and welcome invitations to sit for you on the way!

Why they want to house sit

Having several different house sitters come in and care for our pets and home while we’ve been away has been a series of only positive experiences for us. It was wonderful to have peace of mind knowing our pets and home were well cared for. In turn, we will care for your home and pets as though they were our own.
We love the experience of living in a place for a few weeks and experiencing it in a different way to just being there as a tourist. Travelling can be a full-on experience, and having the opportunity to relax in a home, cuddle the pets, and do a bit of gentle pottering around the house or garden is a great antidote to homesickness without actually having to go home!

We joined Trusted House Sitters in August 2024, and the reviews you'll find so far are from that site. References etc. there too. In the last year we’ve completed almost a dozen sits with THS, in South Africa, UK and Germany (with 5* reviews all round!). We have absolutely loved every sit, and now have many new friends, both owners and pets, in Northern and Southern hemispheres. We take our sits seriously and recognise the privilege of staying in other people’s beautiful homes, often in stunning places we would not otherwise get the chance to visit.
Prior to this we had our own dogs and cats at home for 20 years, and had some experience looking after other people’s dogs, cats, tropical fish tanks, several reptiles and an African Grey parrot. We've only recently discovered this site, and joined up here as well for more opportunities.

What can they bring to the assignment

As long time home and pet owners, we are well versed in taking care of a home, garden (although neither of us would describe ourselves as gardeners!), pets, and even swimming pools! Lynda has always been a houseproud mum and will treat your home with the utmost respect, and leave it as we found it, clean and tidy with any used food and fridge items replaced.
As an Engineer, Stewart has an understanding of how things work, and can often deal with minor emergencies in the home, should they arise, or at least know who to talk to!

We love all animals, and will take great joy in caring for, and maybe spoiling your pets a bit. We're very flexible, and mould our sit around the pets routines and the wishes of the hosts, but will also try to give the animals a fun time while you're away.
