About this sitter

I'm 55. I spent years as an academic researcher in cognitive science, human factors and human-computer interaction, and I now run a small consultancy for micro business owners serving their local communities. Own car, own internet, so remote places are no trouble, and they're usually where I'd rather be.

Ancient woodland, rivers and lakes, quiet coast. That's the country I love, and I'm happiest somewhere like it. I prefer longer sits. Animals settle better when they can tell you're staying, and so do I. A week is fine; a month or more is better.

Freja, my rescue husky, came with me on most of my sits. She died this August, at fourteen. I travel without a dog now, which means no introductions to manage and nothing to arrange around a second animal.

I'm neurodivergent. Routine, structure and attention to detail come naturally to me, and they're a large part of what good animal care is.

I don't take sits from households that hunt or shoot for sport, or that support it. I mention it so nobody's time is wasted.

Why they want to house sit

It lets me live in the countryside, usually with animals for company, while doing work I care about.

I'm not looking for free accommodation. A good sit is an exchange: your home and animals are looked after by someone who takes it seriously, and I get to live for a while in a place that suits me. Say what matters to you at the start, I'll do the same, and most of what could go wrong won't. That includes the awkward things. If a dog has accidents indoors, pulls on the lead, or howls when left, I'd rather hear it in the first message than find out on the first night. None of it puts me off. It just goes better when I know.

Their experience

Six years of house-sitting across the UK, Ireland and France, over thirty sits. Dogs, cats, horses, goats, chickens, ducks, rabbits and fish.

I've managed complex medication schedules, including injections where the vet has prescribed them and shown me what to do. I've fostered rescue dogs, lived with special-needs dogs of my own, and I'm training as an animal behaviourist. I notice early when something isn't right, and I'd rather tell you about a small thing than wait for it to become a big one.

The same goes for the house. Boilers, oil tanks, locking up, keeping an eye on what's stopped working and telling you before it matters. Some sits are as much about the property as the animals, and I'm at ease with that.

I work remotely and carry my own Starlink, so I'm home most of the day. Your animals get company and a consistent routine, and the house is never empty for long.

Every sit gets a private photo and video feed, updated most days, so you can see how things are going without having to stop and reply. If anything needs you, you'll hear from me straight away.
