About this sitter
We are a newly-retired Canadian teacher and engineer who love to travel. Though we've been to many parts of the world, we know that there is still so much more to see and do! We are experienced sitters, and know that fulfilling others' need for reliable house and pet care also gives us the opportunity to experience life in their region.
Why they want to house sit
We prefer to travel by staying in one location long enough to get a feel for the area, rather than flitting from place to place and only touching on the highlights. Being able to have a comfortable home base (with a furry friend to ground us) is the most suitable form of vacation for us.
Their experience
We have done quite a bit of house- and pet-sitting in Canada, but we are new to housesitting internationally. Now that we are retired, we have much more flexibility with our schedule and are able to spend longer stretches of time further afield.
What can they bring to the assignment
Of course, we are also animal lovers. Our family has had many pets over the years: cats, dog, rabbit, guinea pigs, gerbils, fish... not to mention the wild birds and squirrels who have ended up in our care. Our adult children now take our own dog and cat while we are away caring for others' pets.
In addition, Tom is very handy with home maintenance, which is a great skill when something malfunctions. Janet loves gardening, so would be happy to care for indoor and outdoor plants. Both of us are very tidy and respectful of others' property, and would naturally take excellent care of your pets and your home.

Tom and Janet were absolutely WONDERFUL caretakers!
Tom and Janet were absolutely WONDERFUL caretakers! We, unfortunately, were unable to be on-site when they arrived at our place. They immediately hit the ground running! They opened up the place, which meant cleaning and organizing the facilities. They prepared the apartments for the next caretakers coming and jump-started and cleaned both cars for our arrival. All of the dormant plants, trees, and flowers explode in the spring, so there was a lot of gardening. Tom and Janet are very knowledgeable about plants and were careful about how they weeded the gardens. They picked up all the broken branches that had fallen over the winter months, mowed lawns, trimmed shrubs, and even pulled out stinging nettles! Tom managed to dig out a huge tree trunk, and even removed some fallen TREES! We have never seen such wonderfully detailed and complete landscaping at Le Mur and couldn’t believe how tidy and beautiful everything looked when we arrived in May! They made numerous trips to the local dump, so the place looked immaculate upon our arrival! Tom is also very handy… he fixed the plug on the cord of the bedroom heater, installed a motion detector in a dark hallway, installed a front door light, replaced all the dead light bulbs all along our long driveway, and even emptied a heavy big bag of sand for the Eco House floor and covered the exterior floor with heavy black plastic. He even removed an old disconnected landline cable and repaired a broken toilet. Tom and Janet stripped the peeling wallpaper in a bedroom, preparing the room so that we were able to later repaint the walls. Tom and Janet were in constant contact with us via WhatsApp messages, calls, and photos to keep us abreast of all the wonderful things they were doing at Le Mur. We had a lot of peace knowing they were there and were overwhelmed by how beautiful everything looked upon our arrival. The experience with Tom and Janet was great! We would love for them to come back to Le Mur anytime!
