About this sitter

We are a retired couple in our 50s who have been lucky enough to spend the past 8 yrs adventuring across the US and beyond! In our past lives I spent nearly 25 yrs working for the US govt; 11 of that on active duty in the USAF and the rest as a govt contractor. My husband was a chef for many yrs then retrained to be a plumber/general contractor. More recently, I've been volunteering at a wildlife rescue, in between our travels. Up until 3 mos ago, we had the best 4 legged travel buddy, our dog Maisey, who we sadly had to say goodbye to. It was heartbreaking but, at just over 15 yrs, her life was a long & adventurous one. And long ago, we were cat parents to Malcolm & Patsy, who also lived very long & happy lives. The more recent loss has prompted us to explore the possibility of combining our love of travel with our love of animals! Since this would be a new thing for us, we're going in with no expectations!

Why they want to house sit

House & pet sitting would give us opportunities to explore new places while also satisfying our love of all creatures (great & small) without breaking the bank!

Their experience

We don't have any professional house or pet sitting experience, but have done quite a bit for friends & family over the years, since our retirement. Also, we've used Airbnb a lot so there are plenty of reviews from our hosts to get a sense of how we care for other people's property. We travelled for almost 5 years in our RV, across the US, down through Baja, and parts of Canada. During that time we rescued two kittens in southern Texas and brought them to a no-kill shelter, did endless trash pick up nearly every place we stayed, helped various friends & family move, paint, and clean. We spent a couple of months at my brother's small homestead, caring for his pigs, chickens, and dogs, while he recovered from a broken femur. We also spent lock down during the pandemic at our friend's farm house caring for 4 horses, Jackpot the pony, several barn cats & chickens, and the house, which needed cleaning and some repairs. My husband even built them a new fire pit during that time! I've been volunteering at a wildlife rescue for over a year and we both have extensive experience with all kinds of animals, just not in any professional/paid capacity. We're happy to provide references upon request, as well as a police background check.

What can they bring to the assignment

I believe having our own pets over the years, caring for the pets of our friends & family (including cats, dogs, chickens, pigs, horses, fish, and guinea pigs), and house sitting for friends & family certainly provide a background of vast experience. Also, we bring a mix of skills necessary to caring for animals, a home, and even larger properties. Additionally, our travels have opened us to all climates, environments, and wild life, so we're truly ready for anything! We're also free to travel anywhere at a moments notice.
