About this sitter

I am a Dutch, 69-year-old, sporty women (non-smoker) and have lived in different countries during my life. I have worked for 14 years as a scrub nurse in the Netherlands and on the island of Curaçao, in the Caribbean. While living on the island of Curaçao, I traveled during my free time extensively in South and Central America. Lived with my husband and our two children for 10 years in Greece, first as ex-pats, later with our own office at home. After, we moved to Canada, where we stayed for 11 years. Wherever we lived, we had beautiful gardens and gardening is for me a joy. In Greece, we had cats, a dog (a Pointer) and rabbits. I grew up with dogs and after my parents moved to Spain, they had a variety of stray dogs in their home. I looked after their home on different occasions. Due to being raised in the Netherlands and due to moving around, I speak different languages; Dutch, English, German, some French, some Greek and quite fluent in Spanish. For 6 years, I have been helping out some very poor families in Cuba, not only with Humanitarian Aid like clothing and medication, but also by building houses for them, through my own organization.
In Canada, I volunteered 8 years for Victim Services, an organization which works close together with the police. I do have a Criminal Record Check from Canada AND The Netherlands. These days, I often house sit with my partner.
Why they want to house sit
Since April 2016, I settled down in the Netherlands again, after travelling and house/pet sitting continuously for 18 months in Greece, Spain, Portugal, Costa Rica, Mexico, Canada, and the Netherlands. Still, I like to travel and discover new places. That is why I continue to house and pet sit a few times a year, also in combination with a visit to my children in Canada and Australia.

I am a very experienced house and pet sitter. I looked after a variety of animals; all kinds of dogs, big and small, cats, chickens, ducks, goats, rabbits, guinea pigs, fish, and birds. In total, I looked after 40 properties over the last 12 years. My partner often joins me on the sits, but not always.
What can they bring to the assignment
Experience, a world traveler, very independent, confident with multiple languages (English, Dutch, German, Spanish, some French, and some Greek). I like gardening and took care of nurseries on different occasions. I am interested in all kinds of cultures and have experience in looking after big properties. Bert and Renee are a joy to host caring for your pets and home. Such lovely people! They loved our dogs, took the greatest care of their every need: beach walks, ball throwing, evening cuddles. Ruby and Wolf didn’t want them to leave! Our home was beautifully cared for and they cleaned everything before our return. A beautiful present awaiting our return! Renée is a highly experienced sitter, which made our whole experience go quite smoothly. We had great communication from the start, and she read our Welcome Guide thoroughly before arriving. We really enjoyed getting to know her story and hearing about her travels! She's a very easy going person who loves to make connections, which we really enjoy as hosts. We received updates on how Chickpea was doing, and Renée left the house sparkling clean, even managing to vacuum by putting Chickpea in the bedroom while doing so (he's scared of the vacuum cleaner!). She made sure to wait until we were boarding our flight to make sure Chickpea wouldn't be left alone for too long, and even left him a nice present :) All in all, we can highly recommend her to take care of your house and pets!

Renée is a great house and pet-sitter
Renée is a great house and pet-sitter, and we would highly recommend her. She is clearly very used to animals, and both Dudley and Maggie took to her straight away. Whilst we were away Renée sent us photographs from her beach walks with Dudley and of Maggie on her lap, along with regular updates on their welfare and any house issues. Owing to a faster-than-envisaged journey, we arrived back in the Netherlands a lot earlier, and Renée did not mind at all, despite the slight change of plans. When we returned from our holiday, the house was spotless, and Renée had even left us a gift, which was extremely thoughtful. Thank you, Renée!

A great first experience for us with Renee and Bert
A great first experience for us with Renee (and Bert). A great couple with lots of experience sitting houses and watching pets. They both took great care of our cat, sending pictures every day and ensuring he had plenty of attention. They were both excellent with taking care of our house to include watering the garden during the hot weather and taking great care of our hot tub. We returned from our week long family vacation to find an immaculately kept house. They are both extremely personable and we would highly recommend them to anyone in need of a house/pet sitter.

Renee and Bert were just perfect
Renee and Bert were just perfect, they were exactly the kind of pet/house sitters we needed: taking our dog on exciting long daily walks and still having plenty of energy for looking after our pair of cats and our big house and garden. Communication with Renee was easy and swift from the start and all the way through our holidays. They were very flexible with their arrival and departure dates to accommodate our wish for a comfortable overlap. Renee kept in touch and sent us gorgeous photos from their hikes. We felt super comfortable, relaxed and confident during our absence about leaving our four-legged friends and property in their competent hands. On top of all that Bert kindly took us to the airport and picked us up again and Renee had a lovely dinner prepared for us on our return! The house was spotless and the animals were happy and in great shape. We also had great conversations with them. They are super competent, humorous, interesting, warm and lovely people. We can only highly recommend them and hope very much, as do our doggie and cats, to stay in touch with them and to have them back for future sits!

It was lovely to have Renne and Bert return for a repeat house sit with us. The dogs were very pleased to see them as were we! On our return the house was beautifully clean, they had made a lovely supper for us and the dogs were very happy ladies having clearly enjoyed their two weeks of care and super fun hikes. I hope they will want to come back to our island again soon, I can't recommend them highly enough.

Renee and Bert looked after our pets (1 labrador and 2 cats) for the second time so we left with the peace of mind that they were in very good hands. Renee and Bert are indeed highly professional pet sitters. They are responsive, very well organised and the communication was clear and easy throughout the sit. Our dog started to vomit abnormally and they have handled the situation exactly as we would have done. They took sensible and appropriate measures, consulted the vet, kept a close eye on the dog (including during the night) and kept us informed regularly. We were not worried as we knew that the situation was totally under control. We could tell from the pictures they sent that our furry friends had a wonderful time with this dynamic couple, cuddling the cats, taking the dog for long walks everyday and maintaining the house as if it was their own. When we came back, we found happy pets and a spotless house. We can only recommend Renee and Bert and we hope that they can pet sit for us again.

It was a joy to have Renee and Bert house sit for us. We spent the morning together reviewing pet routines and house details before leaving on our hiking trip. Renee has a wonderful energy and an adventurous spirit. They were both eager to seek out local dog friendly trails and beaches for daily outings with Ruby. I was very confident that Ruby would be well exercised and loved while we were away, and that Magog would find his way on to a friendly lap for snuggles. I received daily updates with pictures of Ruby on her adventures to trails, waterfalls, beaches and local vineyards! The flower and vegetable gardens were well tended during the hot weather. The house was very clean and tidy with laundry done upon arriving home. I highly recommend Renee and Bert to care for your pets and home. We would be so lucky to have them house sit for us again when they are back in B.C. Thanks Renee and Bert!

From the moment we met Renee and Bert, we knew immediately that they were an energetic, reliable, organised and responsible couple, and that our house and pets would be in very good hands. Communication has been great before and during the sit, and we received lovely photographs of our furry friends every day. Needless to say that Nox, Monique and Joe have been walked, cuddled, spoiled, and looked after as if they were Renee and Bert’s own pets. Renee and Bert also kept an eye on the house. Snow had accumulated on the patio and caused a small leak on the ceiling of our bedroom: they notified us immediately, and took measures to soak-up the water on the floor. When we returned, we found a spotless house (even cleaner than when we left - Renee had washed the cushion covers, the bed linen, the towels…), and happy pets. We highly recommend Renee and Bert and hope that they will look after our pets again.

The perfect sitters that we cannot recommend highly enough.
This was the third time that Renee and Bert have house and pet sat for us. We never had the slightest hesitation inviting them back and are keen to get into their schedule for future sits. From start to finish Renee and Bert were magnificent
From start to finish Renee and Bert were magnificent. We loved them, our house loved them and our dogs REALLY REALLY loved them. The communication was just what we needed as first timers. Renee kept us up to date on all the fun things they were doing and places they were exploring with the dogs. They were also flexible regarding our return timings, their main concern always for the dogs well being. On our return the house was spotless and the dogs happy, healthy and fitter than when we left them. We felt very confident and comfortable leaving our girls and our home in their safe and caring hands. I hope they will come back again next time!!
